Sometimes It...

lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead.

Two Years Later

"Daddy, daddy! Hurry up!" Red's six-year old daughter, Kendra, pulled him along. "I want to go on our vay-cay-shun!"

"Yeah, c'mon Daddy, let's go!" Four-year old Maleah added.

"Girls, just a little while longer. We're waiting for your Mommy," Red said gently, smiling lightly.

"We get to go to You-Noh-Vah!" Kendra cheered. "Yay Daddy I'm so excited!"

"Me too, Pumpkin. Me too." Red returned the hug that the little girl had given him.

"I want a hug too Daddy!" Maleah whined.

"Alright, come here, Munchkin," Red chuckled, as Maleah climbed into his lap as well. He hugged his two daughters tightly; they were so important to him, they were his treasures.

"Honey! Sorry for taking so long!" (Name of worst enemy) appeared at the top of the stairs.

"No problem, sweetheart. And I gotta say, you look beautiful." Red smiled brightly at his wife.

"Thank you," the girl blushed slightly, joining her family down in the living room. The four Fires gathered their luggage and stepped up to the waiting taxi.

Meanwhile, (Name) and Black had started dating. Their relationship had started about three months after they had met. Their twenty-one months together had been wonderful, and anyone could tell that they cared for each other a lot.

Black was even planning on proposing this very day, but he disguised his secret as just another normal date, at a nice, upbeat, and fancy café, where he and (Name) had their first date.

He and (Name) were having a very sweet date, full of sweet compliments and lots of smiles. Black ordered (Name)'s favorite dessert, a chocolate cake filled with sweet vanilla ice cream. (Name)'s eyes shone with happiness as the waiter set the dish in front of her, but "accidentally" knocked over her fork and walked away pretending not to notice. (Name) leaned down to retrieve her fork. When she looked up, she immediately gasped.

Black was on one knee, a shy smile upon his face, as he opened the ring box he held in his hand to reveal a shimmering diamond ring. "(Name) (Last Name), will you marry me?"

The Fires had finally arrived in Mistralton a couple of hours ago, and took a train to Castelia, where their hotel was located. All four of them were absolutely starving from a long day of travel.

"Why don't we go to that café over there? A lot of people recommend it," (Name of worst enemy) suggested, pointing to the said café.

"Sure, let's go." Holding their two little girls' hands, the family entered the restaurant just in time to hear,

"(Name) (Last Name), will you marry me?" Red's world seemed to freeze. (Name of worst enemy) and his children didn't seem to notice, as they looked over the menu. It couldn't be... But once Red's gaze shifted over to where the proposal was heard from, he knew it was. It was really her. (Name) (Last Name), in the flesh. Getting proposed to by some guy with dark hair and dark eyes. Some guy that Red had never seen before. Some guy that was her boyfriend. Some guy that was soon to be her husband...

"C'mon honey, they have a table for us."

"Yeah, come on Daddy!" his two little girls added to his wife's statement. Red smiled as the four of them followed the waiter.

"Yes!" he heard her voice say. "Yes, I'll marry you!" Out of the corner of Red's eyes, he saw the guy sweep (Name) up into a kiss, as the entire restaurant cheered, including his family.

"Aww, that was so sweet!" (Name of worst enemy) exclaimed.

"Yeah," Red muttered. "Sure." The couple pulled away from their kiss and grinned at each other. It was in that moment, when (e/c) met red. For the longest time, the two stared, but the people around them never seemed to notice.

At the same time, they both cracked a small, sorrowful smile.

For while they had everything they could've ever wanted, love, happiness, peace, along the way, they had lost one another.

No kind of blessing could numb the pain that they felt when they looked away from each other forever.
