Everything changed for me when the man the car started watching me through the windows. Mom started running us to the car quickly and speeding out of the drive way even if my sister and I didn’t have our seatbelts on. Dad got antsy too, around the car. The man always followed us and by the end of his watching cycles from Monday to Friday I was happy he left. It was just him until today. I wasn’t expecting anyone today. “Alison Malvic come down here now. There is a um… nice…man here to um see you.” Mother cried up to my room in a sharp tone. I slammed my book down on the bed and walked down to the banister and peered down to the man waiting for me. He had a full head of black hair, but he was young and skinny. I could tell form here. I started walking again and pulled my shoulders straight and head high. When I finished climbing down the stairs my mother came to me lead me to a room where she had seated the man.
I looked at him; he had handsome features. Black hair, purple eyes and pale skin, drop dead handsome. He stood and walked over to me and took my hand and shook it. He was fairly tall but only a bit taller than me. “I need to speak with your daughter alone, Mrs. Malvic. Please.” My mother for the first time in my life did a little bow and left the room. He gestured for me to sit, I did and he took the opposite chair, crossing his legs and looking very serious. I straightened my back and crossed my legs even though I was in overalls and a dirty worn button-down shirt. He how ever was in jeans and a clean button-down shirt. “What do you want? And what did you do my mother? It’s not everyday she bows to a boy in jeans and shirt. What are you? Important?” He smirked and slouched a bit. “I have come to take you. To school.” I let my mouth drop open.
“But… uh… that’s… that’s not fair! I want to be with my family I’m about to leave for college. I’m…I’m only 19. I want to say goodbye before I go. I have a lot to say to them… um…. How old are you?” His eyes looked confused but he answered.
“I’m 19 also, I was sent here to take you to a different college, one for more… special kids like you and me.”
“So you’re saying I’m stupid.”
“No I’m just saying you’re very special.”
“How special? Special enough, I see, that the damn people couldn’t come themselves to tell me. They decided that I’m ‘special’ enough to make a boy in jeans and shirt come and pick me up. Thanks a lot for that, buddy.”
“Easy there, don’t get all feisty because they aren’t here, their busy and I am special too, I’m just as special as them you have to see. By the way I’m Tyler Gray, not buddy. You can call me Ty though.”
“Yeah? Well I’m Alison Malvic, Ty.” I didn’t want him to call me a nickname, he only got Alison.
“I know.” I lit up with fury once again and fired back.
“Is there nothing you don’t about me?”
“Hey! I’m only trying to recruit you. And anyway I’m your dorm partner so better get used to me.” I sighed and gave up, there is no way he’ll let me get with not going to that school. “Fine, I’ll go.” I got up and went to the door then lead against it and looked back at him. He smiled and got up too. “You know, I think I’m starting to like you. Anyway it’s a really long drive to Zeus’s Academy, like two days or something. So better get used to me as your only company.” And with that he grabbed my arm and made me stop leaning on the door then slipped out and started talking to mom who had probably listened to the whole conversation through the door.
I ran up to Kristen’s room and burst into the room and saw her and her best friend of all time, Malic, sitting on the floor next to the computer. They were only 16 but it felt like she was so old now. I went and stood in front of them, Malic looked up and seeing the expression in my face got and stepped over the computer to me and put a hand on my arm. Kris then looked up and got up too, standing next to Malic. “I’m so sorry, Kris. I have to leave. Tonight. For college.” She stared at me speechless and shocked until she found the words. “I…I…I love you so much Al. I don’t want you to go.” She stepped past Malic and hugged me soaking tears into my shirt and onto my skin. I held her too. I didn’t want to go either. Malic hugged me from behind Kris so she was squashed in the middle. “ You where like my imaginary sister, Al. I love you too. And I don’t want you to go either.” I looked down at his face already clouded with tears and started to cry.
