Anne and I were checking all of the international maps for when we would escape and go somewhere else. Out of nowhere, we heard somebody yell our name."Anne, Laura!!!!" Anne and I both growled under our breath. Our caregiver, Ms. Hale was calling our names to do the 'daily lineup'. We slowly got out of bed and trudged downstairs. Anne slipped in to an empty hallway that I have never been in, but I assumed she was going to the bathroom.
"Okay. Lily?"
"Here!"
"Carly?"
"Hhhhheeeeerrrrrreeeeeee."
"Annie?"
"Present."
"Anne?"
No answer - the room was as quiet as a mouse. Ms. Hale gave me a look that said 'were you up to this?' I hastily shook my head and Ms. Hale went on with the daily lineup.Ms. Hale had finished her lineup and I was kind of getting worried. Anne wouldn't have been in the bathroom for 10 minutes, unless she had a burrito or something. I zipped up the stairs, two at a time if you ask, and smashed open the door. There, I saw Anne on her bed rummaging papers around with a maddening look on her face.
"Anne, what on earth are you do-" Anne cut me off by putting her hand over my mouth to stop me from talking.
"Shhh!!! Don't let Ms. Hale hear us." Anne was talking quietly and raspy, so I knew something was wrong. Anne showed me tons and tons of certified documents about our powers and what they can do. Ms. Hale knew about this and she never even bothered to tell us."Laura, we need to leave NOW." I quickly nodded my head and grabbed my duffle bag with all of my few belongings, and went down the fire escape with Anne. We didn't bother leaving a note of our absence, because we knew that would make things worse. After all this time, we never knew that Ms. Hale was transmitting information about Anne and I to the Plangars. We had no place to hide, and we were getting closer and closer to our final days.
