It was a cold, restless night for Courtney. It wasn't easy for her to be relaxed when Duncan was on her mind. It had been a few years since she had last seen him, but she still had deep feelings for him. She grabbed onto her pillow and hugged it tightly.

She glanced over at the alarm beside her bed. "2:46AM, huh?" She mumbled to herself, followed by a small sigh.

This was unbearable. She needed him back in her life. She loved him. Her pride had ruined many things, including their relationship. There has to be a way to fix it. No. Don't think about that now... She closed her eyes.

The alarm buzzed loudly and her hand popped out from under the covers, and she felt around for the alarm, quickly hitting the button down to shut it off.
"Nnghh..." She groaned as she sat up in her bed, blinking slowly before giving a large yawn.
She stepped out of the bed and slowly made her way to the bathroom.

"Another day..." She muttered to herself, slightly aggitated. She needed a break. Desperately.
She brushed her teeth and fixed her hair in a neat bun.
"No time for breakfast, once again." She said to herself as she pulled the zip of her tight, black skirt that ended right below the knee.
She looked in the mirror and fixed her collar, and turned around, glancing at the back of her.
"Ah, perfect." She scoffed to herself before she took her small briefcase, walking out the front door of her place, locking it behind her.

"Good morning, Ms. Garcia." Smiled the secretary as Courtney walked through the door of the building.
"Morning, Mrs. Davidson. Any updates on my current schedule?"

The middle-aged lady behind the counter glanced down at the pages on her desk, quickly looking back at Courtney.
"The schedule hasn't changed. No phone calls were made to cancel any appointments, or no emergancy cases reported today."

Courtney gave a sigh of relief and gave a nod and quickly hurried off to her office, her heels tapping away at the floor with every step she took.
She closed her office door behind her and sighed, before setting her suifcase down beside her desk and she sat down.

She glanced up at the large clock on the wall. 7:30AM. In about 30 minutes, the first person for the day should arrive.

She picked up a pencil that was neatly positioned on her desk, and started tapping it on a blank page in front of her.
"No... Not again..." She whispered to herself.
She was having these thoughts again, and it was something she dreaded.

She closed her eyes and saw him. His dark hair, small green mohawk, those blue eyes of his. She imagined his lips on hers. She missed it, but refused to admit it.
"Why do I keep thinking about him?" She huffed softly under her breath, eyes still closed.
"He hurt me so much. Why on Earth would I want anything to do with him? It's been about seven years since then, and I still to this day can't get over him. Why?" She said even softer, as she found herself unable to tap the pencil anymore.

She had been dreaming about him, thinking about him, talking to herself about him. Why?
"It was probably my fault he did that to me..." She muttered to herself. "I tell myself this every time, but the more I say it, the more I begin to believe it."
She sighed and bit on the end of her pencil, getting even deeper in thought.

"Scott and I broke up pretty much after we were on that stupid television show. Since then, I've never kissed or even dated anyone... And in all honesty, I still to this day can't understand what I even saw in Scott. Maybe I only dated him to make Duncan jea--" She quickly stopped whispering to herself.
"No!" She said loudly to herself, slapping both her hands on her cheeks.
"I need to focus on my work! Why am I even thinking about some delinquent I just so happened to be romantically involved with when I was nothing but a silly teenager?"

She placed the pencil back down on her desk, and positioned it nicely where it belonged.

"That was all years ago. I've matured since then. I'm 25 years old now, I have an excellent job. I'm a lawyer, helping people with their problems, and here I am worrying about something this ridiculous?"
She looked back up at the clock. It was almost time for the person to arrive.

Courtney sat up straight in her seat, waiting patiently, trying to clear her mind from this nonsense.
"Did I honestly spend 25 minutes just debating with myself and thinking about him?" She sighed, glancing over at her laptop which hadn't even been switched on yet.
"I still have so much work to do from other cases... What is wrong with me?" She said, somewhat sadly.

Just then, the phone rang. Courtney clicked the button and put it on speaker. "Yes?"
"Hello Ms. Garcia. Mrs. Trevor would like to see you now."
"Thank you, Mrs. Davidson. Send her right in."

It was a long, miserable day at work. The cases were nothing out of the ordinary today. Someone filing for divorce, someone fighting for custody of their two young children and another case involving a house being sold at an unfair price, due to damage.

Courtney arrived home, it was pouring with rain outside. She stepped inside where she was greeted by her black and white cat.
"Ah, looks like someone's hungry." She smiled as she took off her work heels as she walked towards the kitchen.

The cat followed her and meowed happily as she walked to the fridge and took out a packet of wet cat food. "Is this what you're looking for?" She smiled, wiggling the packet in her fingers.
The cat purred and gave a loud meow, standing impatiently by its empty food bowl.
Courtney smiled and patted the cat, before feeding it.

It had seemed like what she was thinking about earlier, didn't even happen. She had been distracted and worked way too much to have something as silly as that bother her for the entire day.

She poured herself a hot bubble bath, read a few pages of a book she was currently reading, then she got under the covers and it didn't take long for her to doze off, and have a good nights rest.

The next morning, it was the same routine. She zipped up her skirt, and examined herself in it in the mirror. "Hmm. I suppose this is alright for today." She said to herself.
Instead of her usual hairbun, she decided to clip her hair back.
"You think this looks good enough?" She pouted as she asked her cat, who sat on her bed edge, just looking at her with wide green eyes.

She smiled, before glancing at her watch. "Oh my goodness! I'm going to be late if I don't leave now!" She exclaimed, grabbing her briefcase and practically jumping into her high heels.

As Courtney arrived, Mrs. Davidson greeted her with a smile. "Good morning, Ms. Garcia."
Courtney gave a slight smile back as she hurried towards her office.
"Ms. Garcia," begun Mrs. Davidson.
"Looks like you have an emergancy case today."
Courtney stopped walking, and quickly turned to the secretary.
"Wh-Wha? Today?"
"I'm afraid so."
Courtney looked down and fiddled with her hair.
"Ugh... I don't often get openings. I knew I had two hours to myself today because the previous person who I was supposed to see, cancelled. And no one booked after that. I was really hoping for a nice lunch and a relaxing two hours to myself."
Mrs. Davidson looked down, feeling slightly down, thinking she did the wrong thing by accepting the emergancy case.

"But don't worry about it!" Said Courtney, somewhat confidently.
"I'll battle this emergancy case like it stole my lunch!"

Mrs. Davidson gave a small laugh and nodded. "Best of luck today!"

Courtney arrived at her office, and placed her things down. "Another day..." She muttered to herself.
Her morning case was the same as yesterdays. She was getting more information about the case before they would have to appear in court. It looked like a winning case from Courtney's client, and Courtney felt positive.

Ten minutes after they left, Courtney quickly had a few chips from a packet she had bought from a vending machine.
"Ugh. Not really what I would call food..." She grumbled to herself as she dug her hand around in the packet.
She was going to go to the shop down the road, until she heard about this emergancy case, that is.

"Five more minutes until they should be here..." Said Courtney quickly putting the empty packet in the bin by her desk. She quickly fixed herself, making sure she looked presentable.

The next moment, the phone went off. Courtney leaned forward and pressed the button. "Yes?"
"Yes, Ms. Garcia. Are you ready for the next case?"
"I am, please send them in."
"Alright Ms. Garcia. Duncan will be seeing you now."

Her eyes grew wide, and her heart skipped a beat.
"D-Duncan...?"
