Everything Is Going To Be Alright

Chapter 1| Running

Maya Hart could hear her heart beating in her chest as she ran through the emergency room doors, with Shawn not far behind her.

Maya, slow down!
Shawn called out.

Maya slowed down and took a deep breath. She took a few steps to reach the front desk.

Hi. I'm looking for Katy Hunter.
Maya said breathing heavy. She watched the lady press on the letters on her keyboard. The lady looked up and Maya's eyes widened.

She's in surgery right now, but you can wait in the waiting room right outside of where she is. It's on the sixth floor.
The lady said pointing to the elevator.

Thank you.
She pressed the button. She felt Shawn put his hand and on her shoulder. She gave him a worried look. The elevator dinged and the doors opened. Maya walked in and pressed on the sixth floor. She wondered why this was happening. The doors opened again. She sat down and closed her eyes.

Two days earlier-

Katy got out of her car and ran as fast as she could to her daughters school. Today was the art showcase at Abigail Adams High School. Maya had 5 art pieces showing and Katy promised she wouldn't miss it. She walked through the school doors only to see everyone cleaning up. She mentally scolded herself. She spotted her daughter in the middle of the gym floor laughing with Shawn, her husband.

'Of course he was here. He's always there for her' she thought. She smiled, but felt tears sting her eyes. She turned away and began to walk out of there.

Maya turned her head and saw her mom.

Mom!
Maya called.

Katy stopped in her tracks. Quickly wiping the tears on her face and turned on her heels.

Mom, you're late.
Maya said looking at her feet. Katy sighed.

Yeah. I'm sorry babygirl. I ended up working an extra shift becau-

No, it's okay. Shawn came.
Maya said looked behind her to see Shawn helping a kid put his paintings in a box. She chuckled and looked back at her mother.

Yeah, yeah I know.
Katy looked down and sighed again.

Well, I'll see you guys at home. You want anything specific for dinner?

Um, no. Shawn said he'd take me to dinner. Do you wanna join?
Maya asked.

Katy hesitated.
Oh, no thanks. I'm actually pretty tired. I think I'm gonna get some rest.
Katy hugged her daughter and walked out. She closed the car door and rested her head on the steering wheel. A couple minutes pass, she lifted her head and drove off.

When she got home she kicked off her shoes and walked straight into her room. After she changed she went to the kitchen and started to make herself a sandwich.

She sat down at the table and started eating.

'She doesn't need you in her life, she has Shawn. All you do is disappoint her', she thought.

She took the last bite of her dinner and washed the plate. She got ready for bed and laid down. Quickly falling asleep.

Meanwhile-

Maya and Shawn were at a local diner. Maya was eating the finishing half of her burger and Shawn had already finished.

Your art was very good, Maya.
Shawn stated.

Thanks.
Maya said smiling.

So, Maya. What happened with your mother?
Shawn asked.

Nothing.
Maya said chewing on a french fry.

Maya
Shawn said again.

Maya looked up.
Well I just said that it was okay that she was late and she doesn't have to worry about it. That's it.
Maya took the finishing bite of her burger.

That's it?
He questioned.

Yup, pretty much.

The next morning-

It was 5 a.m. and Katy had already been up for 30 minutes just staring at the ceiling. She always told herself, 'Don't let the thoughts get to you'. But she had enough. She got up and tip-toed over to the closet. She grabbed a bag and quietly made her way over to her dresser. She opened the drawer and stuffed clothes in the bag. She got dressed for "work" and opened the door.

Katy?
Shawn asked half asleep. She dropped the bag and froze in her place,'Just play it cool'. She took a deep breath and turned. She walked towards him.

Shawn?
She teased. She got down on her knees to look at his face.

Where ya going?
He asked.

Work.
He opened his eyes and looked at the alarm clock on his bedside table, 5:15 a.m.

It's too early. You always leave at 6.

Katy thought up a lie quick.
I took an early shift today.

Oh, alright. Bye I guess.
He laughed. Katy giggled.

Yeah.
She pecked him on the lips.
Bye.

She stood up and picked up her bag and walked out of the apartment.
She put her bag in the front seat of her car and put the keys in the ignition.

'Here we go' she thought.

(Rochester is a real place, but the facts I'm about to give you are fake)
3 hours later-

Katy never took herself for the running away type. She always thought she was a stayer, but she realized that if she stayed she would only ruin everything. She looked around not even knowing where in the world she was. All she knew was that she went wherever her mind told her. Then, she passed a sign that said, 'Rochester Famous Cuisine". She was in Rochester. She has been driving for 3 hours aside from her stopping for breakfast, gas, and a bathroom break. Her eyes were killing her. and all she wanted was to close them.

She eventually reached a red light. She closed her eyes and rested her head on the head rest.

She must have fell asleep because she jerked up when she heard the car behind honk at her. The light was green. She rubbed her eyes and pressed her foot onto the gas peddle. She wanted to stop and rest, but decided against it.

She hit another red light and promised herself she wasn't going to fall asleep this time. She began to think about what Maya and Shawn were doing.

'Probably have a great time', she thought.

She noticed the light turned green and began to move her car, still lost in her thoughts. All of a sudden she felt a huge slam into the side her car. Her car had tipped over and was completely destroyed.

She felt a stabbing pain in her stomach.

And then she felt nothing.
