Chapter 4

(Kim's POV)

Jack pulled the car into Milton's driveway. We stepped out expecting Chicago's chilly air, but were pleased to find the warm temperatures of Seaford. It felt so weird to be back here, especially with this ring on my finger. After I rang the doorbell, I admired the ring. I was twirling it on my finger when Jack put his arm around my shoulder and said, "I can't wait to put the second ring on your finger, that way I can call you my wife."

I turned to him, "What do you think our parents will think?"

"I think my  parent will be ok with it, you'll have to work on yours," he responds.

Julie answers the door after what seems like hours. "Hey!" she exclaims, obviously excited to see us, "I haven't seen you in s- Kim what is that!" She says pointing to my finger as we walk inside the house.

"Oh...Jack proposed," I said while blushing.

"Come," she said pulling me into the kitchen

"Jack, Milton is in the den trying to get Jerry to get up if you want to see them!" she calls over her shoulder to my fiancée.

" Ok, thanks Julie," said Jack

After settling down at the kitchen table, Julie demanded I spill all the "details"

"What is there to 'spill'" I said

"How did he do it! I bet it was so sweet. Milton is to scared to propose to me, hell, we haven't even slept together," she says clearly annoyed.

"I thought you lived here?"

"I do. Milton just is a little boy when it comes to stuff like this. Now spill your details."

"Well, where do I begin," I start, "Well Jack took me out for date night, and he was acting really distant and weird the whole time. Now I know that was nerves, but at first I thought he was going to dump me. Anyways, after Jerry finally left our house and went to his 'new house' which is apparently yours, Jack and I started to make out. After a while I was getting bored so I went to take off his sweatpants and I found the ring. It was awkward for him, but I didn't care, at least I have a story to go with our proposal." I said giggling at the last part.

"Oh my gosh! That's too funny! Did you guys f-"

"Yes, yes we did Julie," I said, my face turning an even brighter red.

As she was about to ask another question, Milton walked in. I gave him a quick hug and he told me congratulations on the engagement. He was really awkward about it which makes me think he was about to do the same thing to Julie. I just hope he doesn't take any advice from Jack. We spent a few hours catching up with the gang, and decided it was time to head to my parents place. When we pulled in their driveway, I could see Jack getting nervous.

"Don't worry babe, it will be fine," I soothed, "My dad loves you."

"Not since we moved to Chicago," he said, "It's like we're back at square one."

I made him feel better by giving him a little kiss. After all, it was the last one he would be getting for a while. My twin brothers are visiting form collage, which means lots of teasing. Oh well, if we were at home, I don't think I would be able to walk right now. We greet the family and give a round of hugs. My dad keeps giving poor Jack dirty looks all through dinner, I don't get what is wrong with him. at around 11, everyone is getting ready to go to bed when my dad says to Jack, "Crawford house rule, no two genders are allowed to sleep together, except for me and the Mrs," Unfortunately he wasn't kidding. So Jack was forced to sleep on the couch.

At about 12 o'clock, I decided I couldn't sleep without Jack. I pretended to go and get a glass of water to see if Jack was still up.

"Couldn't sleep either," he says to me, making me jump.

"No," I admit, "Not without you."

He motions me to come lay down with him, but I can only stay for a few minutes because my dad will be mad if he sees us like this. I bury my head next to Jack's chest, soaking in all of his warmth. This feels so good. Jack and I are getting married soon, why cant we sleep together? Oh well. I just lay here soaking up Jack's scent and warmth, before drifting to sleep. The last thought that goes through my mind before  going completely unconscious is, 'I hope dad doesn't get mad.'
