He sees her at a gas station and she's getting sweets and while she is she sees him walk in and puts her head down because they've kind of had history and she's avoiding him. It's raining. She quickly pays while he looks around for a snack. As she walks out he sees her and calls

"hey Emily! How've you been?" But she just waves and says "hey" and walks out. Nice she gets outside she puts her bag close to her and quickly starts walking home and tries to put as much distance between her and Liam. She keeps her head down as she walks. Soon she hears someone calling her name but she keeps walking not wanting to turn around but he catches up to her and puts a hand on her shoulder making her stop and turn around. "Em, what the hell I was calling you " lying had become so easy to her in situations like this, pushing people away became as easy as breathing

"oh sorry I didn't hear you. The rain is so loud" she smiled at him and took a step back "it was nice to see you" she turned around and he ran in front of her blocking her path.

"Emily doesn't lie to me, I know you heard me. Why do you always do this? Always push me away!?" He was looking in her eyes for the answers she would never speak or type out on a screen.

"I'm not I just don't really like you like that our friendship is too strong to mess up" she gave a crooked smile like her friend had given to boys when she turned them down but Liam had something else besides rejection on his face.

"Don't hit me with that bullshit Emily! I see the way your eyes light up when were together! The way you lean in when I hug you. I notice those things!" She tried to hide the surprise on her face. Did he notice all of that? "I see the way you allow yourself to be okay with me and I love that like you're not punishing yourself anymore for past experiences and relationships that failed. It's okay Emily." She smiled and hugged him tight

"no ones ever said that to me before. It means so much to me Liam. Hey, I'm already soaked ill text you tomorrow okay?" She pulled away and smiled at him then he kissed her cheek and let her go. She smiled and waved at him taking in his smile and holding it dear so she could remember how happy he looked before she went home and never texting him.

She couldn't.
