My parents were killed when I was 7. Apparently someone wanted me. My whole village all fought so that I'd remain alive. Now the only family I have is Oscar. He was the one who saved me and told me to run. He found me and now we live a normal life in a small town. Until the 4th of July came... I was wanted again. My phone rang, it was Oscar. "RUN" he said "RUN, and remember my princess! Don't. Ever. Look. Back. I will forever love you!" Tears started racing down my face as I got my backpack that had been prepared for years. I ran out of the house, and I kept on running. I knew this day would soon come.

It was a week before the 4th of July. I was in school and honestly I was just another typical girl who studied when I wanted to and got no attention from boys. I wasn't so into that though, boys aren't really important in my life right now.

Last class of the day and the last bell rung. Finally i get to go home. I lived just a few blocks from school so I always walked home.

Oscar was my legal guardian or parent I guess. My parents were murdered when I was 7 years old. I remember that day so well.

- "Monica, they're here!" I heard my dad tell my mom. My mom then looked so scared and she took me in her arms.
-"I knew this day would soon come but I never thought it'd be this soon"
-"mommy I'm scared" I said and looked at daddy.
-"hey princess don't be. I'll always protect you. Just remember, don't. Ever. Look. Back. Okay?" My dad would always say that to me. It was a way of him telling me that there is nothing good about the past. I just nodded so he knew I heard him.

He walked out of our home. My father walking in front of my mother and me in her arms. My mom held me so tight that made me even more scared. Soon everyone from the village walked out their homes and walked over to us. It was dark and I could barely see through the torch with fire a few had in their hands.

"Oscar I'm home" I yelled into the kitchen. I walked to my room and soon he was at my door. "How was school today?" I looked at him and then looked to the ground.
-"What is it?" He asked.
-"why did they want to take me?" My face still looking to the floor. I heard him sigh.
-"I can't tell you, yet. You can't know" he sighed again. I felt anger rush through my whole body.
-"well why not!? I'm already 18! It's been 11 years, I demand to know!" I yelled and I regretted it right after.
-"you cannot demand anything and when you're ready I will tell you. So until then, you should start acting like an 18 year old not like a 5 year old who wants a toy" he replied and left my room. He didn't have to be so rude about it, but I guess I didn't intrigue him to do so. I walked to the door and slammed it.

People were running everywhere and I was held from arms to arms. Just like a hot potato. I wasn't sure why they were passing me around. There were people dead on the ground and homes being destroyed. Men and women were running away from these soldiers. I don't understand why they would run away from someone who is supposed to protect you.

I was back in my mothers arms and she told me 'darling, me and your father might not make it. And you might not understand this now, but understand that we will forever love you and we will always be right in you heart. Now I need you to run, I need you to run as far away as you can!' Tears started running down my face. I hugged my mother for the last time  and then my father kneed down next to her. 'Princess, I will forever love you. And remember, don't. Ever. Look. Back.' He kissed my forehead and gave me a hug. I stood there in the hiding spot a little while longer until I heard my dad scream and start to cry. I knew in that moment that my mothers spirit was the only thing with me.

My father quickly came to me and said 'RUN ABIGAIL RUN!' And so I did as I was told. I ran and ran and ran into the woods. The place I most knew.  As soon as I caught my breath I climbed up a tree and hid there until... Well I wasn't sure what exactly I was waiting or hoping for.
