*Doctors office*
"Cassandra how many fingers am I holding up?" The doctor asked in an authorative manner.
"Erm...3 no 4!" I said blinking back tears. I knew this was going to happen sooner or later but I was hoping later.
"What is it Dr Drew?" My mother asked, blinking back tears herself.
"I'm sorry but she will lose her eyesight by the end of the year." He said quietly, meanwhile trying to avoid my mother's eye.
"Oh, well there is still time for the treatment, right?" I replied hopefully.
"No. It's too late. Your eyesight was fine but these past few months it's just been getting worse. No surgery can help you." He said, remorse inching every word he said.
"We are discharging you now but if you have any questions feel free to ask." He said leaving the room.
My mom looked at me expectantly but I just shook my head and she understood.
"Let's go."
The drive back home was quiet...eerily quiet almost. "Don't tell anyone at school mum, no one." I stated in a dead voice.
"The teachers will have to know darling and maybe telling your frie-"
I cut her off, "no mom. Tell the teachers but not my friends. They would treat me differently. No. I'm just going to live my life and like you said when I go blind we leave." I stated. This was for the best. I knew what I was going to do: we were born to live fast and die young. Lana Del Rey's lyrics speak volumes.
