Leaving the doctor's office feeling disappointment once again was not what Luna considered to be a good time. But it happened so often that it had become her routine. After months of searching she had yet to find a doctor that could put a label on her strange symptoms. Like any other person Luna got nightmares, but what set her's aside from everyone else's was the fact that her's were multiple times a week and served with a side of crazy. Side affects of her outrageous dreams included intense hot sweats, nausea, and more often than not...vomit. The dreams themselves were their own mess. Because of this it was nearly impossible for her to get a good night's rest. The few nights a week when she didn't get nightmares were the ones she treasured the most.
Sleep was already hard enough to get. Being a high school student meant late nights staying up in order to achieve those perfect grades she always strived for. Luna soon realized she had a problem as the amount of her nightmares every week began to progress. That's when Luna and her mother decided it would be best to see a doctor. The doctor was able to tie her symptoms to chronic nightmares which lead to insomnia. This basically summed up the whole reason why she was having such restless nights and was given medication.
However the medicine was of no help whatsoever. Each time she went back to the doctor he would up the dosage or give her a different type of medicine. But medicine failed to stop the nightmares from rolling through. After a while Luna gave up on trying to stop the nightmares because everything she tried always proved to be yet another pointless attempt.
The reason Luna had started visiting doctors once more was because her nightmares weren't just nightmares anymore. It hadn't been up until recently that her dreams began giving her all those nasty side effects. And so off they went from doctor to doctor and even specialists. Some labeled it as extreme chronic nightmares but others couldn't figure out a definite answer. And that's exactly what she was dealing with right now. Just another appointment with another doctor that had no clue.
Luna was snapped out of her thoughts by soft voice," I know what will cheer you up Sweetie, let's go grab a bite at the diner. How does that sound? "
" Sounds like something I could use just about now. " she said trying to at least sound the littlest bit happy.
Her mother always knew exactly how to cheer her up when she was feeling down. The diner was their go to place for anything and everything. Plus it was one of the few places that she felt she could be herself without feeling people's glares and curious glances. That's right, this girl's fortune only gets worse from here. See, Luna has two different colored eyes. If you were to look at her from your point of view you would notice that the left one was brown and the right one was blue. Well you would think that most people would find her eyes to be cool and amazing, but in fact, many thought the opposite. Public places like school and the store were not among the top ten of her favorite places to go. Not everyone was mean to her about it, but even when they were nice she still couldn't help but feel out of place.
Luna and her mom had been going to this diner ever since she was a little kid and a few of the waiters and waitresses had been there ever since. After a while the diner became her favorite spot to go to.
Stepping into the diner you could instantly smell pancakes, coffee, and bacon. It was a permanent smell that never seemed to leave no matter what time of day. Booths lined the edges of the room and tables filled the middle. The lights were always set to give off the perfect glow that neither too dark nor too bright. A few minutes later they were seated and looking over their menus.
"Hey, ya know... don't let this bring you down, okay Luna? Dr. what's-his-face over there doesn't have a clue what he's talking about" her mother played.
"I know, I know. It's just-" she paused, " frustrating after a while I guess. Being told the same thing over and over again."
" I understand, but things will get better." she promised. "Now let's focus on something more positive. Ya know your birthday is in less than a week!"
"Three days to be exact. I was thinking of inviting Andy to sleepover." she beamed.
Her mom pondered the question for a moment before replying," I don't see why not. It's been awhile since I've seen her. How is she?"
Before long Luna and her mother were wrapped up in a conversation about birthday plans and her best friend, Andy.

If you didn't read the heads up I would really appreciate if you did. Also please let me know if my grammar is messed up. Thanks!
Also I know this chapter is really short. I still have to edit it but again, this is also my first book sooo, not much experience over here :)
