Claire POV
Diamond was rocking back and forth in a ball, Fall Out Boy blaring in her headphones. I bit my nails nervously, and a doctor walked out.
"Could you, er, come back for us to chat?"
I nodded, and helped Diamond off the floor.~SKIP~
"She has WHAT?" Diamond spat.
"Cancer."
"Y-Yeah, I heard you. It's just... Uh, Claire, I might pass out now..."
"Please don't." I sighed.
The doctor looked at Diamond and then at me, and smiled sadly.
"I'm guessing I'll be the bearer of bad news and tell her family?"
I nodded and gave him Dylan's landline number. As for Dylan herself? She was out like a light.~SMOLLER SKIP~
We had brought Dylan home, and as I laid her on the couch I heard Diamond scream "CLAIRE COME QUICK!" and soon after a loud 'thud'.
I ran to see what happened, and what I saw terrified me.
Dylan's dad, hanging by the neck, completely limp. Diamond was on the floor, unconscious.
"Oh my god... As if this day couldn't get any worse..."~SMOLLEST SKIP~
After the ambulance had arrived and Diamond woke up, I made her tea to calm her down. It wouldn't be long before Dylan woke too, and I don't know if I could tell her that she has cancer and her dad commit suicide as a result. I heard rustling from the other room, and a voice.
"Ngh... Claire? D-Diamond?"
I walked to the room, regret building up before I could even speak.
"D-Dylan..."
"What happened..?"
"You have cancer.." I choked out.
"What?"
"And your dad- your dad is hospitalized for attempted suicide."
With those words, you could see in Dylan's expression that something deep inside shattered.
"I.... just... want.... to.... see..... my.... mom..." She said, sobs breaking her speech.
"Where is your mom?"
"F-Florida..."
"Maybe Diamond's girlfriend can help us find her!" I said, trying to sound optimistic. "Then- It'll be okay!"
It'll be okay.
I hope.
