Chapter 1

A woman stands at a window in the first bedroom of her house, looking down to the damp road from where there had been a storm that night. She cradles her baby tight to her singing sweet lullabies to her child as she tries to calm him down from the last thunder boom and even though that happened quite a while back it took her a while to calm down her little son. She continued to stare out on to the street, the street she was named after and had grown up in. She thought of all the memories good and bad happening down on the pavements, from the time Timothy had kissed her on the cheek and ran away making her blush to the time Rodger had pushed her over into the puddle ruining her little blue dress her mother has especially brought for her. Now they was all grown up though, Timothy had married her best friend Louise and they now had two little children, two little bubbles of joy. After the birth of the children they had moved away from Ivy Street. They knew of the dangers there just like she did, making them scurry away, running from them and live a happy new life in Dorset. Even though she envied them that they could just get up and leave like that she still kept in contact with them.

She knew she had to stay here, she knew that she had nowhere to go and that if she did they would just be able to catch her. Her son’s destiny was here yet she didn’t want it to be. She wanted to protect him from the evil things that happened in the small town of Tipton  . She was stuck here. Whilst her friends could move on and enjoy happy fulfilling lives she knew she couldn’t. It would definitely cause more trouble, trouble she did not need. So she stayed here. In the house she grew up in, in the street she was named after, in the street where people from all around the town had heard of, the street that her son would remember forever, where he would grow up in before going elsewhere.

She did not know what her sons future held for him. She wanted him to be happy, to have a family, to make a person out of himself not like she did. She wanted him to start up a business eventually or become a lawyer. She sighed knowing that this would not happen though and she did not know what would become of him. She knew that she did not have long with him and that one day he would be taken away from her just like her husband, John, was. She would then be alone; she would grow old and grey here in Ivy Street, Just like Mrs Harvey had, she swore she would not end up like Mrs Harvey but here she was in her house on Ivy Street. Looking out on to the road of Ivy street whilst her son, Edmund, slept in her arms wrapped tightly in a blanket so he wouldn’t catch the breeze.

She made put Edmund in the mosses basket that had been passed down from generations. Then made her way towards the double bed her and her husband once share and then got into it. She looked at the wedding photo of her and John, smiling as she saw the adoration and love in their eyes as they looked at each other. She missed him dearly but knew one day she would be with him one day where ever he was. They both would be united again when she was set in a coffin next to him in the graveyard of St Thomas’s. She closed her eyes finally going to sleep keeping the happy memory of her wedding day in her mind.

What Ivy did not know though is that she would be joining him quicker that she knew and that Edmund would then be taken elsewhere leaving number 48 of Ivy Street empty.
