Once upon a time there lived two foxes who lived across a river. The young fox ren lived on the left side of the river. He worked with his uncle in a repair shop. Ren was smart, hard working, and very popular with the ladies. Ren is a red fox who is known for his green coat.
Winter the other fox lived on the right side of the river. She is a silver fox. She is a great artist and is committed to whatever task she is faced with. She loves the silver locket her grandmother gave to her in her will. The two had never seen the other side of the river.
"Uncle what is across the river"asked Ren.
"Well boy"the uncle said. "Other foxes live over there."
"Really! Do they look like Us?" Ren asked
"I don't know too much. Ren get that done the people want it by noon!" The uncle shouted. Ren finished up on the car and ran to his house. He grabbed his bag and a few Items to stuff it with. Then Ren ran out the door.
On the other hand winter was looking for wild berries when she found a river. She stared at the other side. Then Ren stumbled out of the bushes. He stared at winter and winter stared at him. They just stood there looking at each other.
"Hello! Do you live across the river?" Ren said. Winter did not reply to this question. "My name is Ren!" He shouted. Winter stood there.
"Yes I live here. My name is Winter. Nice to meat you Ren!" Winter said.
"Nice to meat you winter!" Ren said. Winter looked behind her. "What is it winter." Ren asked.
"I thought that someone was calling me." Winter said.
"Nice locket."
"Nice coat"
"Thanks"
"Your welcome" the two stared at each other again. Then winter disappeared into the bushes. Ren ran home eager to tell his uncle what happened. He ran home only to find his uncle in the kitchen with a police officer sitting at the table. Ren walked in slowly.
"Did I miss something uncle." Ren asked. But his uncle just stared at the floor. "What's going on?" Ren said.
"Okay, you were spotted at the river talking to someone. Is this true because it is against the law." Ren didn't want to lie but he also did not want to go to jail.
"No I was not. I was at a friends house." Ren said defensively.
"Sone we have proof. But I will let you off the hook now. Don't do it again son." The officer said
"I'm not your son. Just get out of my house." Ren said. He grabbed his bag and walked into his room. He plopped down on his bed. "Why uncle just why." He thaut. The next morning he woke up. He got dressed and walked into the kitchen. His uncle was cooking at the counter top. There was a package on the table. It was wrapped in paper and had a tag hanging from a string attached to it.
"That is for you. It's from your parents in the city." Ren's uncle said. Ren grabbed it and ripped the paper off it. Inside the box is a snow globe and a dagger. He read the tag.
"Dear son we hope you like these gifts. The snow globe is from mason NH. There is a great pancake place called parker's. The dagger was bought at a army story and we thought it looked cool. Not eis it has a small skull and it was sharpened with silver. (That was a bad idea). Hope you enjoy the gifts.
Love,
Mum & dad"
Ren read the note and grabbed a plate. He didn't bother talking to his uncle. He needed to see winter again, but if he went would he get caught, would she show up. Ren took some ham and eggs. Ren walked to the table and pushed the box aside. He didn't talk. His uncle walked to the table and sat across from Ren. It was silent, all you could hear was the clamour of dishes in the sink. Ren finally stood up. "What happened last night uncle" Ren asked impatiently.
"The cops saw you talking to so..."
"What really happened!"Ren screamed. His uncle did not answer. Ren stormed into his room and grabbed his things and his clothes and shoved them into his bag. He walked back out to his kitchen. This was happening so fast his uncle could not understand what was going on. Ren stormed back out and slammed his fist on the table. "I'm quitting. I'm also moving. So don't bother to reason with me. I am finished with you and the police. Put me in jail but I am going back to the river."
"I thought you were smarter than this?" Ren's uncle asked
"I am smart. Smart enough to realize that when I told my parents to leave me behind so I can stay with my uncle was a bad idea!" Ren screamed. He walked out the door and across town to the river. "Winter!" He shouted. "Winter, Winter!" He shouted. Soon after winter walked out of the brush.
"Yes Ren. What is it?" Winter asked. Ren smiled.
"I am coming over to your side of the river." Ren said. Winter looked concerned as she watched Ren jump from rock to rock. When Ren got to the other side the rock that he jumped on were covered by water. He smiled and hugged winter. "You are even more lovely in person." Ren said. winter blushed.
"You must be quite the lady killer." Winter said. She walked off into the bushes, and Ren followed her. The bushes were thick and thornie. Winter cut through them like butter rather than brick. When they got out of the bush Ren was astonished by how poor the other side of the river is. As they walked through the town Ren had a gaping hole in the middle of his heart for these people. His heart ached just looking at someone from this side. They entered a door in a tree stump. It was quite a cozy little home fit for a sweet girl. "Sorry I was not expecting guests." Ren looked around and smiled.
" No it is fine as it is . I love it. I wish my house looked like this."Ren said
"What does your house look like?"winter asked.
"I don't have one"Ren said sadly
"Well, I don't care if you have one or not you are staying with me now. Good thing I have a guest room." Winter said cheerfully. Ren was looking around when he saw a few drawing. They looked almost professional. They deserved to be in a museum. Winter blushed again. Her eyes widened and she took the papers out of his paws and hid them in a closet. She shut is and stood in front of it. Her face looked like a fully ripened tomato.
"Don't do that you are amazing" Ren said
"Thanks but they are kinda personal, so."winter said. There was a moment of silence until someone screamed. Ren and winter ran out to the town. They ran to a fox that was pointing to the river. They ran to the river. RENs uncle was standing across the river with a few other people.
"Who are they Ren?" Winter asked.
"That is my uncle. What are you here for. I have nothing to do with you!" Ren said snarling. His uncle looked at him and winter.
"Is that the fox that you gave your life to see again. Your parents want you back. Now come with me and nothing bad will happen to your forest friends !" Ren's uncle said. Ren showed his teeth and stepped in front of winter. Winter looked so confused. Ren pulled out his dagger. "Put that knife away boy. You don't know how to use it."ren's uncle said. Ren's face was so filled with anger, why won't people leave him alone.
"Sure I don't know how to use it but I will try. You should worry about your own problems." Ren smirked. The uncle tilted his head in confusion. "How are you going to cross the river? Who is the smart one now? Uncle." Ren asked. One the uncle's friends looked at the river, then he tried to jump it. But surely the waves of the water took him and carried him away.
"The great river will not bow down to someone as inferior as you scum." Winter said. "The great river is not just water. Our lost fox live in it, they control the river. They protect the sides of the river, they let Ren across because because he has a good soul. You don't" winter said.
"Why you girl. How dare you call me that. You are nothing special just another fox who Has no clue who they are talking to. The river I nothing special. Just water and dirt." The uncle kicked the ground then spit on it. Winter pushed Ren aside and stood at the mouth of the river.
"You are stupid. You know nothing at all, if you are that great then jump I dare you." Winter stared at him. The river's waves grew stronger. Then the sky grew dark and a great big fox appeared in the sky.
"I am the great river Spirit. I have come to protect the sides. You are not worthy. Go." The fox said. "Since you will not go you shall be banished!" The great fox swooshed its tail then the uncle and his friends vanished. After the sky lit up and winter fell to the ground. Ren rushed winter to the village shaman.
Few days later
Winter woke up. The house was dark. She was in a bed near a window. Ren was standing over her.
"What happened is you uncle gon? Is the river safe!" She true to sit up gasping for air. Ren put his paw on her chest hinting her to lay back down.
"He is gon. You have nothing t o worry about, now rest up you" rain said. Winter layed back down. "How did I get here" winter said
"I brought you here after you passed out. This is your village shaman." Ren said. "Rest up now"
After Ren moved in with winter they lived with each other for seven years before ren got the guts to ask for her hand at hand marriage. They had two children a boy and a girl and lived a happy life. They never saw Ren's uncle again.
