I woke up in the middle of the night due to the cold. I sat up and folded my blanket twice to help keep me warm. In the process, I saw the girl who'd stolen my attention since the time I laid my eyes on her, reading a book, with the light on. I rubbed my eyes and checked the time on my phone. 2:24. Whoa. I peeped at the book to see the title.
The Fault In Our Stars.
Oh well, all I knew about that book was it was a teenage romance and too cheesy for guys to read. Yet, if I could manage to impress her, I wouldn't have to worry for the rest of the time. First impression is always the best impression, right?
I peeked again, this time, for her to notice. "Hmm, The Fault In Our Stars, eh? It's a beautiful book." She met eyes with mine and my heart began to throb in my chest. She was so beautiful, so innocent and I was smitten by her, the moment I saw her.
"Umm... Yeah, I haven't really finished reading so I don't know." She murmured and began concentrating on her book. I got down from my berth, wore my sandals and stood right under hers. She looked at me suspiciously as I held the bars supporting her berth and swayed my body forward and backward. "What are you trying to do?" She asked in a ridiculous tone and I became conscious.
"Uhh... Nothing. I was going to say that there's a beautiful part in this story. I mean, the end right? It's amazing." I swayed again as I leaned closer to her. She looked surprised. My eyes fell on her feet, that were constantly trying to find warmth amidst the cold outside.
"Really? I think Augustus dies in the end." She frowned and I raised my eyes in confusion or rather I would say, realization.
"He does?" I asked her back in a curious tone and she smiled at the way I embarrassed myself. I hit my head to the bar in embarrassment and made eye-contact with her. She was cupping her chin with her hand that was resting on her elbow, and was looking at me with a soft giggle.
"Have you read this book?" She asked with a pressed smile and I flushed. Damn! Why don't I ever have my ways with women? I ran my fingers around my hair, embarrassed about being caught and then smiled awkwardly.
"Uhh... Well, I've read many others though. Romeo Juliet, Wuthering Heights, and so on." I flapped my hands in restlessness and to divert the attention I was getting. I made eye contact after I completed and she smiled.
"Pride and Prejudice is my favorite classic." She spoke as she shifted in her place and scooted closer to the railings.
"I love Romeo's lines. I have even memorized them enough to remember them. Just a minute. Ahem." I cleared my throat and then began to speak.
"With love's light wings did I over perch these walls;
For stony limits cannot hold love out..." And before I could continue, I heard another voice join me."And what love can do that dares love attempt.
Therefore your kinsmen are no let to me." We said together and a smile appeared on my face as she giggled. She was a cheerful girl and her happiness made me smile."You like Romeo?" I asked with a small smile as I admired her, being herself. She sat up straight again and spoke with a tinge of comfort in her voice.
