“Louis I swear on me Mam’s life, if you try to take one more chip from my plate, I will floor you. That goes for you as well curly! Now back off.”
I walk over to the boys’ table and stand next to where Harry is sat across from Niall, and his massive plate of chips.
“Hey.” I say, pinching a chip from Niall, giving him a wink as I bit into it.
“Ella!” Niall says, jumping me up and crushing me in a bear hug.
“Cant. Breathe. Lungs. Being. Crushed.” I have difficulty saying since he’s squashing my organs.
“That’s the point, love. Teach you to nick my chips.” He winks; I just stick my tongue out.
Harry stands up and hugs me, without crushing my bones like Niall did, before going to get another chair so I can sit down.
Harry’s been my mentor for about a week now, and it’s going pretty well, I think. We haven’t done any actual work, just hung out and messed around. Plus, since Niall is Leah’s mentor, me and him spend quite a lot of time together as well.
Usually it’s just the four of us, me, Harry, Leah and Niall, but sometimes just me and one of the boys, and occasionally Louis or Liam will be there too. Not Zayn though, he never comes with the other boys or hangs around us. I’m starting to think he’s avoiding me. Even now, when we sit and have lunch together, he tries to not sit next to me, and he never speaks directly to me, I have no idea why though.
Harry moves down a chair, so he’s now opposite Louis, leaving a gap for me between him and Zayn. I awkwardly climb between them, then taking a seat.
“Where’s Liam?” I ask after noticing there was only 4/5 of the band at the table.
“Off with some first year girl, he’s been with her every day since we got here, you would think they were going out.” Harry answers, sipping on the straw of his orange juice.
Ever since the mentoring programme started, I’ve only seen Liam a few times. It seems as if he spends a lot of time with this first year girl, he must really like her, which could be a bit of an issue since she must be about sixteen or seventeen and he’s twenty, not that it makes a difference to me but some people are really judgemental about that kind of thing. I make a mental note to myself to ask Jaimie, who’s also a first year, if she knows anything about it.
“But Li said they were just friends.” Niall chirps, sounding slightly confused.
“Yeah ‘Just Friends’,” Louis snorts “They’re obviously together, Liam never does just friends, it’s all or nothing with him. He just won’t tell us, which I don’t get at all, because there’s no way we’d ever believe that. Just friends my arse.” He scoffs, his disbelief obvious in his voice.
“I’m gonna try and get it out of him,” Niall exclaims, jumping up from the table with excitement from the thought of his new game. “C’mon Lou, let’s go do some interrogating! I’ll be good cop, you be bad cop.”
“Only if by bad you mean bad ass cop!” Louis replies in a fake, high pitched, girly voice, as he follows Niall’s lead; Niall nods in response. “In which case, lead the way detective Horan!” Louis says, clapping Niall on the shoulder as they leave the dining hall.
I’m now left alone with Harry and Zayn, both of whom seem very tense. I had been trying to avoid being left alone with them, since Zayn really doesn’t seem to like me, and Harry always tries to rope him into the conversation. This makes us both uncomfortable, since Zayn obviously doesn’t want to talk to me.
Unfortunately for me it’s at that exact moment when one the girls that I have french class with walks past. It’s Sian, great. Because that’s all I need; the school slut walking past while I sit silently, and don’t forget incredibly awkwardly, between two members of One Direction.
