When the first rays of spring fluttered on the horizon a man by the name of Lucas came to the old kingdom looking for prize wild horses. He had heard from multiple travelers that the strange lands he was traveling to were filled with beautiful exotic horses. He brought with him ten servants and thirty armed soldiers to subdue the wild beasts because he hear
Upon his arrival he found the herd grazing by the cool river that ran along the eastern border of the old kingdom. There he found a young girl around the age sixteen playing with the foals and yearlings of the herd, just as if she had always belonged there. He pondered what a young girl of her age was doing out here by herself with these wild beasts and why they would let her play with there young. With further inspection he found that she was orphaned and lived in the ruins of an old castle. Which he had no idea that it even existed. As night fell he planned to capture the herd and the young girl in the morning to take to his king back in Decorous.
In the morning with one quick sweep while the horses and the young girl were still sleeping, Lucas ordered his troops to move in and first capture the herd. His plan was successful. Next he made a moveh to take the young girl he saw the day before. He eagerly hid in the underbrush that was surrounding the old castle and waited for the girl to appear. When she did he sprinted from his hiding place and swooped her up over his shoulder for she weighed in his mind as light as a feather. She screamed and cried out for the herd to come save her but her cries were of no use for the herd had long past been moved and was headed back to Lucas's land to become gifts for his king. Not unlike what the girl was to become.
When they arrived back at Lucas camp he placed the girl down on the soft furs that lined his tent and made up his bed. Tears were streaked down her face and other than the little sobs that escaped her she was silent. Her eyes casted downward and were hidden by her long eyelashes that were clumped together by moist tears. She thought to herself why is this man taking me away from my home and where is my herd?
"Do not fret little one" the man finally spoke after what felt like an eternity of silence, "I mean you no harm, but I must ask and wonder what is a pretty girl of your age doing out here all alone with the wild beasts?" She opened her mouth to speak but nothing came out for she had not spoken in many years.
"I-I-I am so-rr-y sir but" she cleared her throat and tried again this time without stuttering, " I really do not remember, and the beasts that you call so wild are far from it. In fact, I would claim that you are wilder than they are. They are my family what have you done with them?" He flinched with her words and his once warm smile that graced his lips turned into a snare with her spiteful words.
"Well my dear they are headed back to the land of my fathers and shall be presented to my king as gifts not much unlike yourself" He sneered. "Get comfortable my dear for we will be leaving these strange hideous lands with the first light!" and with that Lucas left her to her sobs as sorrow filled her heart and soul.
They left just like how Lucas for told at first light. When dawn broke on the horizon Lucas busted into the tent to find the girl fast asleep. He awoke her and forced her onto a saddled horse. The sight of the horse made her burst into tears once more but Lucas hushed her. With that they were off on their journey back to Lucas's Land of his Fathers, Decorous.
