A week has come and gone. Aithne and Jaycyne are loading all their stuff into the truck and lock up the cabin. Aithne starts the truck and begins driving. It's quiet as they leave the park and approach the check in. They look around before leaving the keys under the mat. They look at each other confused, and Jaycyne leaves a note saying that they put the keys under the mat.
They both get back into the truck and drive along the abandoned highway. They saw cars everywhere and fires. They looked around, and Jaycyne saw the truck speeding straight for them. "Aithne look out!" She screamed. "Shit!" Aithne shouted as she tried to curve to avoid the truck. It hits the back of the truck and they go flying.
Jaycyne hits her head on the dash and blacks out. Aithne hits her head on her window and they roll to a stop, upside down. Black dots fly across her vision as she looks at the other truck. She sees what looks like blood covered people, but its hard to see. The people shuffle to the truck and a man falls out. The people surround him and surge forward. She heard screaming and tearing sounds before blacking out completely.
(Time skip to night)
Aithne slowly began to wake up. Her head was pounding as she wearily looked around. She saw Jaycyne and reached over to shake her shoulder. "Jaycyne. C'mon lass, wake up." She said, slightly panicking. Jaycyne moaned and started to move and slowly opened her eyes. "Aithne? Wha... What happened?" she slurred. Aithne sighed and grabbed her hand. "We got in a car crash Jay..." Aithne said, unbuckling herself. She fell onto the wheel and coughed. She looked over at Jaycyne while wincing. "Ok, we need ta git out of 'ere..." She said as she reached into the glove box and pulled out a handgun.
Jaycyne watched Aithne with confusion. "When did you?" she asked. "Tristan 'nd I share tha truck," Aithne replied. Tristan is her step dad. Jaycyne nodded as she braced herself. Aithne unbuckled her and she fell against the dash. Jaycyne gasped and coughed as Aithne turned and started kicking her window. It cracked before shattering and Aithne kicked away the rest of the glass. They both crawled out and looked around.
There was no movement. Cars flipped over and parked next to each other. They heard a groaning and they looked over to where the other truck was. Aithne reached into the truck and pulled out a military grade flashlight and turned it on. They both approached the truck and Aithne noticed a trail of blood. She shined the light along the trail before it stopped. At the end of the trail was a human torso. It was bloody, with almost nothing left but scraps of clothes and flesh. Jaycyne gagged. It looked like it had been eaten alive.
Suddenly, it moved. Aithne shined the light on it and it turned its head towards them. When its eyes landed on them, they noticed that they were a sickly blue and glazed over. It snapped its jaws and snarled at them. Jaycyne gripped Aithne's arm and stared at it.
"W-What is that thing?" Jaycyne whispered. "I... I don't know." Aithne replied. It moved its arms and attempted to crawl towards them. They watched it in confusion. When it was about three feet away, its head was shot off. Jaycyne gasped in shock. They heard running and a guy ran up to them. "What the hell are you two doing? Do you want to get eaten?" He asked. They just aired at him in shock.
He groaned and reached out to take Jaycyne's hand, but Aithne raised her gun up to his face. "What's going on 'ere? What was that?" She asked. The guy raised his hands in a surrendering motion. "Look, I'll tell you everything, just not here!" He said. They heard groaning and turned to see at least a dozen of the things shuffling towards them. "Shit, come on!" The guy said, running towards a hardware store. Jaycyne and Aithne ran after him. When they got inside, another guy shut the door and barred it.
Aithne stared the guys down and Jaycyne looked around. "What tha fuck is 'appening 'ere?" Aithne asked. The guys looked at them. "Where have you been the last week? A virus came out. Most of the world has become flesh eating monsters. It's a zombie apocalypse." The guy by the door said.
Aithne and Jaycyne looked at each other and then out the boarded up window. They both had one question on their minds. 'How the hell do we get through this?'
