154 portfolios. 154 new puppets. 154 defective tests. He was dreading writing the reports.
"Captain Kenji" a light voice flowed into the room. The officer directed his gaze from his papers to the door before letting out a small, uninterested "hm? Enter, cadet."
A man with a small stature and short curly black hair walked in, immediately giving his captain a salute. Kenji returned his subordinates respect for a good 2 seconds before letting his salute drop and adjusting himself in his chair. "Sir, sorry to come unannounced, but the new battalion just arrived. Alpha 24. They're in the quads waiting for the inspection." The cadet let himself stand respectfully at ease as he awaited his captains response. A small look of annoyance slowly found its way onto Kenji's face as he whined "I haven't finished looking over their portfolios yet. I need another hour" he sighed. Letting his head rest in his hand so that his middle finger and thumb were on his temples, he glanced over at the, not even half complete, stack of portfolios.
"Alright, here's what we'll do." Kenji leaned back in his chair as he let out a small hum. "Sergeant Moniwa, I need you to get me Lieutenant Kuroo and Captain Ushi. Can you please go get them and tell them to come to my office?" Kenji removed his hand from his head as he pleaded to his subordinate. Moniwa gave him a nod, a small "yes sir, will do," and one last salute before exiting Kenji's office.
Kenji's glance darted back to the stack of, only half checked, portfolios of the new battalion.
Alpha 24, to be exact.
A lot of them were young, too young to be already brainwashed. It hurt his heart. They were teenagers, most of them anyways. They should be out enjoying life and doing what teenagers do, not serve in the military as a puppet. Their lives are gone.
A few yeas ago, the human population had started multiplying at an extreme pace. The government couldn't handle the damage with supply and demand, a lot of people were dying and diseases were spreading. Everything needed to survive was dropping faster than the population was growing.
The government issued a new law. Anyone in the lower middle class and below would be taken into custody and brainwashed into being hollow soldiers. Puppets that we were controlling. Of course this caused a lot of fuss but no one could really do anything about the situation. It put enlisted soldiers out of business because their services weren't needed anymore. Though it was fucked up to think about, Kenji had to admit it helped a lot with resources. It was, in the end, a good choice.
As a captain, who works in medicine, he was in charge of checking these, now soulless, people to make sure they weren't defective and that the brainwashing worked. He's also in charge of keeping the ones with allergies and medical issues in order. If a new puppet comes in and needs a certain medication on a daily, he has to make sure they get that medication. Even as puppets, they still have flaws. Can't have a puppet die on the front lines because of a bee sting or something.
The defective ones have to be put down, or, in simpler terms, killed. If the brainwashing wears off, it takes effect on their brain and they go insane, become unstable. Completely unsafe to have around. The only way to deal with a defect is to put them down, and they keep a special medicine on base to do that. A large case filled with it is stored safely in the back of the medical building.
Kenji was drawn out of his thoughts to when he heard a knock on his office door. "Enter" he sighed. Two men that hold a lot of power on the base, stepped into his office. No salutes were given, though.
"Yo, Futa" Kuroo greeted. Ushijima gave him a smack on the arm. "Talk to your superior with respect" he barked.
"He's only a rank higher than me, and no violence in uniform" Kuroo replied back with a huff as he crossed his arms.
"That does not matter at all. He's still your captain at the end of the day, and in we're in combat uniforms... Dumb ass."
Kenji cleared his throat to get the attention of the two idiots bickering in front of him. "Listen" he lightly slammed his hands onto the desk. "Alpha 24 has already arrived on base. All 154 of these damn things need defect checks and I need your help with that."
Kuroo gave let out a small whine while Kenji was speaking. He didn't want to help with the defect checks, they are a pain. Ushi on the other hand just nodded and let out a small "mhm" as he put his hands behind his back and stood at ease.
"Here's the clipboard with all the names on it. The sergeants down in the quads should have already placed them into formation so you each get some cadets to help you go through all the elements. Got it? Alright thanks, you can leave now. Get out" Kenji huffed as he stood out of his chair and headed for the door to leave.
"Someone's a feisty little busy body" Kuroo snickered to Ushijima before leaving the room to follow behind the small brunette.
154 new lifeless people to take care of. Kenji was ecstatic.. Note the sarcasm.
