Growing Friendship

Kaneki walks down the street towards his school. "I guess I better get back to school sometime" he thinks. He nears the school looking for Hide. "H-Hide?" He yells.

"H-hide?"
Hide turned around pulling an earbud out of his ear hearing a voice yelling his name. It sounded familiar... Glancing around he saw no one around him that he knew so he shrugged his shoulders and continued to walk to school. He left an one earbud out so he could hear if someone called him again.

"Hide! I know you heard me!" Kaneki said starting to run towards him careful not to drop any of his books.

Hide turned around after hearing the voice once more. Smiling his million dollar smile, he saw Kaneki run towards him. He waved a hand while saying.
"Was it you that called the first time?"

Kaneki blushed seeing Hide's smile. "Of course it was!" He teasingly hits Hide in mock anger. "I almost dropped my books because of you!"

Hide rolled his eyes playfully and replied.
"It's not my fault if you dropped your books. Put them in you bag that's what it for."
He noticed a slight tint in Kaneki's cheeks, but thought nothing of it. Channing the subject he said.
"How did you think you did on the mid-terms so far? I really just want today to be over."

"I don't really care, they aren't too hard" he said walking next to Hide watching him.
He hoped Hide wouldn't notice, but he knew it wouldn't actually happen. His blush brightens as Hide looked at him.

Smiling, Hide said.
"Want to go get some lunch? I'm starving for some food."

"Uh yeah, I'm not really hungry but I'll sit with you" he said shifting on his feet.

Hide noticed he was uncomfortable. He replied back with.
"We can sit outside and eat by ourselves, if you want. You okay? You seem a little off today."
Hide put his hands in his pocket while looking at Kaneki.

"Oh yeah I'm fine" he says sounding uncertain. "I'd really like to eat alone with you Hide" he says blushing really hard.

Hide nodded and grabbed Kaneki's hand while saying.
"Let's go."
He began walking, dragging Kaneki with him.

He was startled at Hide's touch, but gripped his hand hardly. He wondered what Hide was meaning by holding his hand and walked closer to him.

"Hey Hide!"
A classmate of his yelled while seeing him enter the lunchroom. Hide waved back before being Kaneki over to the lunch line to grab lunch. His eyes wandered over the school lunch to see that today was American style. Releasing Kaneki's hand he turned and asked him.
"You sure you aren't hungry? Today is Western style food. It's pretty good."

"Yeah I'm sure. Where are we going to eat?" He said watching Hide's facial expressions as He stood in line with his best friend. "I have something I have to tell you" he says shyly.

Hide nodded and said.
"Does matter where we eat and sure you can tell me."
Hide quickly asked for a slice of "pizza" and took some bread too before paying for his lunch.
"You decided where you want to sit?"

"Yeah" he says pointing to the tree outside. "There seems nice" he says blushing.

Nodding his head, Hide started walking toward the exit.
"Hey Hide come sit with us!"
Hide glanced at his friend before said quickly.
"Sorry I already have plans."

Kaneki pulled Hide over to the tree and sat down. " H-Hide how do you feel about me?" He said hesitantly.

Hide glanced over at Kaneki while he took a seat next to him.
"What kind of question is that? You're my best friend."
Hide took a bite of his pizza and chewed his food slowly
