There's one thing any doctor will tell you. Never mix love and work. Of course those words will come from a previous experience after the term 'take my advice' never actually being taken. Therefor it was down to those who had loved and lost to pass on the ignored advice for the next naive victim eg intern. It was once written somewhere  that those who meet after locking eyes over the water cooler are more likely to enjoy long lasting love obviously whoever wrote that did not work at a hospital, or at least Seattle Grace.

It was no secret that the marriage of Addison and Derik Shepard had been a rocky one. After Addison had a fling with Derik's best friend (in his favourite sheets might I add) he had fled to Seattle only to fall in love with the intern Meredith Grey. The steamy love affair was to draw to a very abrupt end when Addison turned up at Seattle grace several months later as the newly appointed head of the neonatal unit. Deciding against divorce Derik chose to stay with Addison and 'attempt' to sort out their problems. Despite the fact it was obvious he and Meredith still had feelings for each other lately Derik and Addison's Marriage was on the upside only he hadn't any idea until that moment.

It was the night of the prom at the hospital for the Chiefs niece Camille, everyone looked fantastic and where having a wonderful time even the workaholic surgeons seemed to be smiling.

As the fast upbeat music faded to a slower more calm song Derik Shepard tensed. He'd know this song anywhere, it was his wedding song. As the slow, powerful music began to flood through the room all the couples made there way onto the dance floor. Derik looked round anxiously for his wife. He spotted her by the drinks table speaking with the not to be reckoned with Dr. Bailey. He smiled politely at his coworker as he approached before slipping an arm around his wife's waist making her jump.

"Oh Derik" she chuckled surprised.

"I'm sorry Miranda, I hope you don't mind me stealing Addison away from you but I want to dance with my wife" he said charmingly to the woman who scared him to death.

"Please be my guest" she said with a raised eyebrow motioning to the swaying couples a few metres away.

"Thank you" he smiled escorting Addison onto the dance floor.

As they draped their arms around each other and began to dance Derik pushed his mouth to Addison's ear.

"D'you remember this song?" He whispered kissing just below her earlobe.

"How could I not" she smiled resting her head on her husbands shoulder.

Derik looked past his wife to see Meredith dancing with Finn and for the first time since they split felt nothing. He didn't pine for her , he didn't feel jealous or angry at Finn He didn't feel anything for her. For the first time since he moved to Seattle all he cared about was the woman in his arms and for the past year he'd been treating her like shit.

"Addi..." He murmured.

"Hmm" she answered head still resting on his shoulder.

"I'm sorry" he sighed tightening his grip protectively around her waist.

She raised her head and looked deep into his eyes, a confused expression on her face.

"About what?" She asked.

"Everything" said Derik still dancing "this past year all you've done is tried to salvage our marriage and I've been a dick" Derik shook his head.

"No you haven't" Addison tried to stop him.

"I have baby, I stopped us being able to move on I was the one who was living in the past , the one who's almost wrecked everything all over again because I was holding a grudge over something id Been over for longer than I'd like to admit! I'm sorry Addison, I'm so so sorry all this time you've been so lonely and I was to childish to notice" he looked at the ground embarrassed.

Addison pushed his chin up and looked into his eyes.

"It's ok, I'm ok, we are ok, we're perfect" she smiled reassuringly at him.

Derik felt awful for putting the woman he loved through such agony, the times he'd heard her cry herself to sleep and just faced the wall, what sort of husband was he?.

"I love you Addison Shepard" he said so sincerely he thought he might cry.

Addison looked as if she'd just seen a ghost.

"What" he asked pushing her hair out of her eyes.

"That's the first time you've said that to me since, well I can't remember the last time you said that to me" she trailed of.

He cradled his wife's face delicately in his hands.

"I mean every word Addi" he said softly "I...love...you..." He repeatedly slowly this time.

"I love you too" she choked back.

They shared a passionate kiss , so passionate the whole world went away , the music disappeared , the people and flashing lights where all gone leaving just them , they where all that mattered.

When they finally pulled apart again the music was upbeat again and people started to jump about around them. Derik grabbed his wife's hand and pulled her towards the exit, his eyes twinkling.

"Derik where are we going?" Addison squealed.

"Home" he answered mischievously.

In their mad rush to get out Derik didn't even notice when he bumped into the chief.

"Going somewhere?" He questioned his head of neurology.

"Yes I'm going home to have the best sex I've ever had with my wife" he smiled charmingly to his boss.

"Evening Adele" he greeted the chefs wife.

"Good evening doctors" she chuckled in disbelief shaking her head as the two disappeared into the night.

"What" she asked up to her husband who appeared to be giving her puppy eyes.

He shrugged unconvincingly.

"You can dream on you dirty old man" she slapped him playfully.

As Derik pulled up at the trailer he gazed over at his wife , his beautiful beautiful wife and smiled.

"What?" She questioned gently.

"Your just so darn beautiful" he whispered.

She smiled and tilted her head to the side.

They both Made there way inside and just like Derik had informed the chief, they had the best sex only this time they made love...

The last line is kind of cheesy but I found it quite fitting. I know this is set almost ten seasons ago however I am British so slightly behind. I love this pairing despite the fact I have a pretty good idea how it's going to end so I've decided to write my own version, sorry for anyone who likes the Meredith and Derik parring.
