It surely wasn't what I expected. But I could work with it! I can't let this discourage me from this amazing opportunity. "We're like the yin and yang!" "But we're not oriental!" "We can be anything we want to be! This is so cool! If this is possible, what else is? I bet we could time travel or make stories come alive or ride dragons or meet aliens or-" "Calm down! Let's focus on what's in front of us for the time being." "You're right, what am I thinking? One thing at a time! Tell me about yourself, what stuff do you like to do, what's your favorite color, what's- hey I-" "You really like the sound of your own voice, don't you?" I frowned at that. She made me sound so conceited. I wasn't that bad, was I? I was just excited. Suddenly, my smile bounced back as a thought popped into my head. "Hey, we should switch lives! It'll be like The Parent Trap, sci fi style!" "First, we've got to figure this whole mirror thing out. What's different, why us, how it works. I want to know that if I go over there, I'll come back." That reminded me. I stuck my hand through the surface of my double's mirror. It slipped cleanly past. "Looks like it's open for now, maybe we should stick something in it to keep it open or at least know when it closes. Then, even if it splits whatever's through it in half, we'll each have half of something to remember each other by," I suggested. "That's actually not a bad idea," my doppelgänger confirmed. She pushed a cheap looking toothbrush through the mirror, the tip crusted with old toothpaste hanging through the gateway to my lush pink bathroom, so starkly different from my twins. I was disappointed by the grossness of the toothbrush and the unoriginality of the object, but I had better things to think of. "I've been dying to know your name anyways, if it's not the same as mine, which is Lacey." "It's Melanie." "Oh good, I thought we'd have to figure out some weird nickname, because nothing goes with Lacey. Lace? L? Ace? Cey? Not easy."
