harry's pov

"Harry, you have the room upstairs," my mother said to me while assigning rooms to the beach house that we'll be staying at temporarily for the next few weeks. I dragged my one, lonely suitcase up the staircase and tried to scurry away from my family as quickly as I could.

About a half hour later I could hear my parents fighting over what we all should go get for dinner, as expected, it's how half of their arguments are premeditated. The fights typically start with, "I want Chinese," and then it eventually turns into, "Robin, you're always working!" And, "you cheated on me!"

The fighting has been going on profusely since I was ten, before my step father realized that my mom was having an affair with a man she used to work with, and of course, that fighting doesn't give me high hopes for love or loyalty, if anything, all it's doing is showing me the type of relationship I shouldn't try to repair. I hate thinking of the situation in that way, my step father has been here for mother, my older sister, and I since I was two, he's practically my dad, but unfortunately, his marriage with my mother is failing and they're trying to use beach therapy before taking the first step in ending their battered matrimony.

My older sister, and my only friend, Gemma did the two of us a favor and ordered a pizza after my parents sent themselves into their bedroom to continue their unending argument. I didn't feel like eating, I didn't feel like doing anything other than keeping to myself but there's no way in hell my sister was going to let that happen.

"Harry, it'll be so much fun, you might even get to meet some friends," my sister begged, trying to drag me out to do activities at the residence we were staying at for the time being.

"Gemma, it just doesn't feel appealing to me."

"Then what does feel appealing to you, staying indoors listening to the same argument all night?"

The argument she was using was convincing enough to get me to go out that night. The house we're staying at came with a golf cart, which is something popular used to get around at the beach. The place where we're staying at, Lake Oceans, hosts a "Golf Cart Parade" every night, letting people get to goof off and pass other golf cart riders.

Ten minutes into the parade, I was complaining, wanting to go back to our beach house. The majority of the people in the parade were intoxicated, rude or just plainly unpleasant. As I high-five what felt like the hundredth person, we approached an annoyingly loud golf cart that was playing the overplayed song, Panda. As they made their way towards my golf cart, I made eye contact with one of the guys in the back who seemed to not being as entertained as his friends, he was smiling and his friends kept looking my way which would have creeped me out if I didn't find him attractive.

"Hottie looking your way," my sister said as the group got closer.

As soon as the guys were about to approach beside us, the guy who'd been staring me down hopped off and jumped on the back of our golf cart, causing loud uproars from his friends. Gemma was somewhat alarmed, me on the other hand, was completely shocked and a bit scared. Gemma and I exchanged a look before he started laughing.

"Hi, the name's Louis," he said, his accent deep.

"Um, Gemma," my sister introduced, warming up into this awkward encounter.

"And you?" He asked, smiling brightly.

"H-Harry," I stuttered, "why did you jump on here?" I asked.

"Because, you look like you need cheering up."

I was a bit baffled at his words, I was expecting him to say that he wanted to talk to Gemma, or anything that wasn't related to me, no one ever notices me. I smiled to myself for a good second, shaking my head and rolling my eyes at him, trying not to blush.

"Would you like to drop by our place?" He asked.

"Um, I don't know...we just met," I reminded him as he replied with a deep sigh.

"Harold, take a chance, won't you?" He said back as my sister nudged me.

"F-fine."

"Where am I dropping you two off?" My sister asked.

"Just go up this next strip and take a right, it'll be awhile before my buddies are back," he chuckled.

When we pulled up, the beach house was twice the size of the one my family was staying at, my sister told me to call her if I wanted to come back, my parents were more than likely too angry to notice my absence at the home.

"So, why did you invite me here?" I asked.

'You ask a lot of questions."

"I'm sorry."

"You don't have to apologize," he chuckled.

"Sorry...I mean, um-"

"Don't be tense, love."

Did he just call me love?

The beach house that Louis stayed at was huge, the wide, black velvet couch didn't even take up the majority of room, there was a huge flat screen television and piano in the livingroom. Louis led me to the kitchen which had granite counter-tops and up to date kitchen appliances.

"Can I get you something to drink?" He asked, motioning for me to sit on a stool. I took a seat and shook my head as he poured himself a glass of water. I was questioning my sanity, questioning whether or not this was supposed to be some sleazy one night stand or if he was genuinely interested in my mood.

"So what brings you to Lake Oceans?" Louis asked.

"My parents," I muttered as he scowled at me with piercing blue eyes. "It's more than just a family vacation," I added to lighten the mood.

"What do you mean?" He asked, taking a sip of his water.

"My parents are on the verge of ending their long failing marriage, this trip is their last hope of keeping us together or something," I explained as Louis frowned.

"My parents are divorced, or not really divorced, my dad kind of ditched my mom when I was young."

"I'm sorry," I replied, gazing at him.

"You know, it was what was best for me mum, after that she went back to school and is now a certified general surgeon so things worked out, sometimes a person can be a weight holding you down."

"Deep." I said and he started chuckling, which is something I couldn't get enough of that night, it was one of the purest noised my ears have heard. His laugh embarked a smile from me, something I hadn't done in awhile.

"So...um...what do you want to do?" I asked as he choked a bit on his water, causing me to laugh.

"What did you have in mind?" He asked.

I took a deep breath and replied with, "taking a chance."
