The girl looked at her alarm and screamed internally. She looked around the small cell room, and slammed her head back against the pillow before pulling it over her face and trying to suffocate herself. She hated this place more than anything else in the world. Well, at least, what she knew of the world. She truly didn't know anything that went on outside the lab walls. And even if she did, she couldn't be sure, the only way she learned was from reading the books that they allowed her. Who knows, the books could all just be lies, vampires and werewolves could all be fake. But she didn't think about things like that often, the belief gave her hope. Hope was the only thing she had to hold onto anymore.
She sat up, and grabbed the uniform that had been placed on her bed while she was sleeping. She grimaced as she thought about the fact that they could come in whenever the pleased. And do anything they pleased. Hell, just the other night, they came in around 2 in the morning for an experiment. She hated the lack of control. She didn't even feel like crying as she stripped off the pajamas, and they fell off of her thin figure, landing in a simple pile on the floor. Her once bright, beautiful blue eyes stared straight ahead, with no emotion. Her silky black hair fell carelessly down her back, and her pale skin contrasted beautifully with both. She would have been so beautiful, just like her mother.
Her mom was named Josephina, or so the letters said. She was the most loved woman in all of London, and even beyond. She was young, and beautiful, and so sweet. But then something happened, she got pregnant. She was only 19 at the time, and in no position to raise a baby. Her mother, Arabella's grandmother, was so disappointed and angry, that she kicked Josephina out. Josephina hadn't finished college yet, and she had no money. Both she and the baby would have died, had she not come to the facility. It was called “The Playhouse”, and they paid mothers huge amounts of money for their newborns. They provided food and housing, only at the cost of being able to experiment on them. However, in the information, they forgot to list the kind of experiments. They made it sound so wonderful, that Josephina trusted them with little Arabella until she could save up and come back for her.
Arabella smiled lightly. “My mother will come to get me, she is the most amazing mom in the entire world!” She said happily, reminiscing in the stories her mother told her in the letters. She heard the familiar buzz of the speaker, and soon heard Daddy's voice.
“All children please wait for your assigned guard and proceed to labeling and breakfast. That is all. And have a joy filled day!” His voice rang cheerfully throughout the echoing room.
“And have a joy filled day!” She said sarcastically along with him. “How about I take my fist and shove it straight up your-” She was cut off as her guard stood outside the door and cleared his throat.
“Arabella, come along.” He said in complete monotone. She allowed him to handcuff her and lead her along the seemingly never ending hallway to the labeling room. She stood in line alphabetically among the hundreds of other test subjects.
“Ahhh~ My sweet sweet Arabella~” Daddy said smiling, his abnormally white smile making her cringe.
“Morning, Daddy.” She said spitefully, resisting the urge to spit in his face.
“So, we have level 3, level 5, and level 9 experiments available for you today. What is your pick, darling?~” He asked, resting his head on the top of his hands.
She thought for a moment. Most people would have chosen the 3 without hesitation, but she was really trying to save up points so her mom could come visit her. And then her mom could pay her fees, and get her out of there! “I'll take number 5.” she said, ignoring all the remarks and comments behind her.
Daddy smiled and handed her a small wooden token with the number 5 on it, “Here you are, sweet thing.”
She rolled her eyes and the guard uncuffed her so she could grab the token. She would turn in the token when she was called to her experiment room, and then after the experiment was complete, she would get 5 points added to her point card. The points basically worked like money, once you saved up so many, you got a reward of your choice. The level of experiment you chose, from one to ten, decided how many points you would get. Eventually you can pay for a parent visit, or even to get yourself out. Arabella wasn't worried about paying to get herself out though, her mom hadn't directly told her, but by the way she worded her letters, she knew that if she could just get her mom a visit, then her mom would have the option to pay her fees and get her out. She had no doubt in her mind that her mom would get her out of this cruel place, her mom was the nicest woman in all of London of course!
