"I don't wanna let you go," she whispers, cupping her cheeks."You have to. You have to move on and forget about me," a drop slips down her face and Cara knows it's not water, but a tear. She wipes it away with the pad of her thumb, with such a delicate touch. She then runs her thumb all over her cheek, tracing its way to her lips.
"I can't — I can't do that, I just can't," the dirty blond says shaking her head, tears starting to form on her eyes. She doesn't want to go, she knows she has to, there's no point in staying but that's not reason enough.
"You know I can't give you what you want," Barbara strokes Cara's hair with her wet hand, and Cara closes her eyes at the contact, leaning in slightly.
"You're all I want, all I need. Please don't go," her voice breaks at that last line and opens her eyes, deeply hoping for her beloved to change her mind.
"Don't make this any harder," she presses her lips together, holding back a sob. Both their hearts have been broken, but there's nothing none of them can do. This is just how things go.
Barbara retrieves her hands from Cara, as Cara leans a bit more, frowning by the loss of contact.
"I love you," Cara says, on her last atempt to make Barbara stay.
She gives her a simpathetic smile, full of love and adoration, "I love you too, and I always will."
Both of them lean in, to give each other what could be their last kiss, their eyes closed. The kiss holds a ton of emotions – love, despair, melancholy, sadness, anger – but on top of that, it holds hope.
Barbara is the one to finally break the kiss. She'll miss this – she'll miss her so much, but she has to go. It is everything but fair to hold her back like this. She has to do this.
By the time Cara opens her eyes, expecting to be looking into those deep blue eyes she fell in love with, she finds herself looking at water, and water only. It's done. She's gone.
