So, you've stumbled upon our campaign and want to get involved. Maybe you have a book that you want to add to our reading list, but are wondering if it meets the criteria, because, well, there are rules. Sorry about that (actually, no, we're not. Rules are necessary).
In the context of this campaign, diversity isn't just about race. Any character with a different race, sexuality, physical or mental disability, mental illness, culture, religion, etc. qualifies as diverse, and therefore could qualify for our campaign. The purpose of this campaign is to help people find characters like themselves that they can relate to on wattpad, and to raise awareness for the differences in our world.
In order to qualify for this campaign, your book needs to have a diverse protagonist← what about an antagonist? Anyway, the main character-or a very prominent character important to the plot- needs to be a diverse or different race, sexuality, physical/mental ability, etc. Your book will also need to show the effect that being diverse has on the character, whether it be physical, emotional or anything else. (Ex: if the character has a mental illness, the book should show the daily struggles your character must face because of their mental illness.)
Another major qualifying factor is that you must provide some kind of hope for your characters and for your reader. We're not asking for a happy ending with everyone holding hands and frolicking through fields of magical flowers with unicorns under a rainbow. That's just unrealistic. However, this should be a safe space for people that want to find relatable characters and storylines, so you have a responsibility to show your reader that it gets better.
