I hope this story is worth reading even if you haven’t seen Wolfblood (in which case you’re missing out), so I thought I’d provide a bit of background so that you’ll understand it if you haven’t.

Wolfblood is an originally British TV programme (CBBC), which is a series behind in America on the Disney Channel and is on in loads of other countries, and I think it’s INCREDIBLE.

Maddy Smith is a teenage wolfblood – not werewolf – a species that is literally half human and half wolf. They become wolves every full moon, their first transformation being when they’re about 14, and can then change whenever they want to, or when they feel threatened or angry. She lives in Stoneybridge, a small village in Northumberland, Northern England, surrounded by forest and moorland.

Series one starts when she’s 14, before her first transformation. Her best friends are Tom, who has a bit of a crush on her, and Shannon, who’s obsessed with finding a beast on the moors, unaware that it is really Maddy. Rhydian, a boy in care, arrives, and Maddy soon realises that he is a wolfblood and doesn't know it. She and her parents take him into their pack both for his protection and for the protection of their secret, and Maddy and Rhydian become very, erm, good friends: it’s clear to everyone else that they fancy each other, but not to them. Halfway through season one, Rhydian’s mother Ceri turns up, and later his younger brother, Bryn. It is revealed that they are wild wolfbloods, ones that don’t live with humans but survive in packs in the wilderness, from Wales, and that Ceri didn’t mean to abandon Rhydian as a baby at all. Although he refuses to return to the wild pack with them at first, in the finale’s massive showdown Ceri and Maddy end up transforming in front of Tom and Shannon so that they know the secret. In the panic that follows, Maddy’s parents take her off to run away to live with their cousins in Devon and Rhydian leaves for the wild with his family. Tom and Shannon rush to Maddy’s house to reassure her that they would never tell anyone the wolfblood’s secret, allowing Maddy to stay in Stoneybridge but too late to stop Rhydian leaving.

Series two opens with Rhydian running back to Stoneybridge months later, chased by the crazed wild pack’s alpha, Alric. Rhydian won’t say what he did, but Maddy still defends him and gets rid of Alric for the meantime. Rhydian is allowed to re-join the Smith’s pack, which Tom and Shannon are now considered a part of. Shannon is secretly collecting data on the wolfbloods to protect them when their secret does finally come out (Maddy makes her delete all this later in the series). Suddenly, a mysterious girl turns up: it slowly becomes clear that this is Jana, Alric’s daughter, and that Rhydian’s crime was taking her to a human town. She claims that she has also been banished, and so she sets herself up in an abandoned caravan and goes to school with the rest of the pack. It’s very obvious that she, as well as Maddy, is in love with Rhydian, and this causes a lot of tension and fighting. A lot of the time it is unclear whose side Rhydian is on. We find out that Jana was sent to retrieve Rhydian by Alric, however when he comes for him she defies him and stays in Stoneybridge. Shamed by his lack of control over a ‘cub’, Alric is also banished from the pack and Jana is called back by Ceri to become the pack leader. Rhydian refuses to go with her to stay with Maddy. Alric then comes for Rhydian, blaming him for his awful situation, but is pacified by Maddy and Rhydian, who send him on his way to try and find a new pack. His parting words are wishing Rhydian luck, and reminding him that Maddy is his alpha.

Meanwhile, a boy at school whose ancestors were ‘werewolf’ hunters, Liam, sees Maddy as a wolf when she tries to save him from a disused mine. He starts obsessing over proving that she is a werewolf, involving scientist Dr Whitewood. Heading through the tunnels of the mine he reaches the Smith’s cellar, what they call the ‘den’, and retrieves a dog chew from it. When he send this to Dr Whitewood, she analyses it and discovers Dan’s wolfblood DNA (Maddy’s father). She immediately sets about trying to blackmail the Smiths into being tested on. They make the decision to run to the wild pack where they can’t be found and will be protected by Jana. Although Maddy asks Rhydian to come with them, he realises he can’t because then a man hunt will be sent after him by social services. During this, Tom and Shannon had finally persuaded Rhydian to ask Maddy out, to which she said yes, and so as they part on the moors they share their first kiss and promise to find each other.

This story is taking place one month after the end of series two.
