My entire life I've been compared to my twin sister Ivy. More like poison Ivy should I say. My parents are always saying "Oh Bethany, why can't you be as socially active as Ivy. She won the figure skating competition you know". Being a twin is insanely difficult. It's always Ivy this Ivy that. Oh did you know Ivy won this and that. Why can't they see that I don't want to be like her? She's the beauty and I'm the brains.
I'm the simple twin. Attention is definitely not on my list of things to achieve, it usually completely changes a person's character and personality. No thanks. I don't want to become my sister, but not being the prodigy child means I'm pretty much the family slave at home. I do most of the cooking, and I clean up after Ivy has her friends over all the time.
Moving out would be the perfect solution, but I'm still 15, so that's another three years until that's possible. Running away isn't an option either as I've done that before, but they found me and dragged me back. I always have to be home by a certain time, but my sister can go out and get drunk, come home in the early hours of the morning and my parents don't bat an eyelash. Yet she's 15.
I was blessed with my twin, note the sarcasm. She breaks something, I get the blame for it. The only other thing apart from academics that I'm good at, is skateboarding. Of course my mother prefers if I don't do it because it gives the family a "bad image" I do it anyway. I mean, it's not like I'm going to a club and doing drugs is it? Dad always leaves for work before we're away so my board is my transportation to school as mum takes Ivy and her friends. That doesn't really bother me though because boarding is my escape from reality, and I'm glad to get that time to myself. I guess it just sucks being seen as second best all the time.
