Penelope

I sat on my bed looking over my outfit repeatedly. For my first day at my new school I had chosen to wear a black pierce the veil shirt and black skinny jeans. It was quite obvious they were gonna think I was emo trash. Guess we got ruining my chances of having friends out of the way before I even got on the bus. Oh well, I don't have any time to change now. I grabbed a granola bar and headed for the bus stop. It was only a house away so I didn't have to walk far.

When I get to the start of the house next to ours, the one that I have to walk past to get to the bus stop; I see a boy sitting on the wall of our bus stop. Great. Now I have to share a bus seat with a (probably gay) boy. He was cute though. He was short, maybe a sixth grader, lowkey had boobs, was wearing a pastel plaid button up, and jean shorts definitely bought in the woman section.

I walked up and sat next him. "Hey." He said quietly. He glanced at me, his blue eyes sparkling in the morning sunlight behind me. When he smiled his lips hair-pin curled at the ends and his eyebrows raised. I thought about the way his hair covers part of his forehead. I ran my fingers over the rock I was sitting on.

"Oh, hi. I'm Penelope. You got a name?" He seemed intimidated by my sarcasm.

"K-Toby. I go by Toby." Toby. A cute name for a cute boy.

Eventually the bus arrived and me and k-Toby sat next to each other. In fact, and me and k-Toby seemed to sit next to each other quite frequently. My first period math, my second period English, my third period Art, my fourth period lunch, and my ninth period advanced science were all with Toby. And Toby was coincidentally sat next to me in every class. And naturally, I sat with his friends Ned, Emma, and Caroline at lunch along with him.

I sat on my bed looking at my advanced science homework. There was no way I could do this. I texted Toby, "wanna come over? i need help w/ my science HW." I had gotten his, and all of his friends numbers during lunch and we now had a group chat. I didn't want to ask in the group chat though because his friends had already been teasing him that he liked me- witch could no way be true- and I didn't want to make it worse.

"sure I'll be over in a min" he quickly responded. And surely, a minute later there was a knock at the door. He held two glass bottles containing red liquid. "Hi." He said.

I stared for a minute at his godly form. The shorts had changed to black skinny jeans and his black shirt showcased an upside cross in a slightly lighter shade of black. May I remind you his shirt was practically dripping off his collar bones. He coughed awkwardly. "Come in, come in. My parents won't be back with witchie poo till about two hours from now so for now we have to house to our selves.

He walked in and sat down on the floor next to my papers. "Ok, so do you know your periodic table?" He asked. I shook my head. "Can I just give you the answers? It'd be so much easier."

I scrunched my eyebrows together. "But you don't have your paper I enquired. I continued to stare at the bottles wondering what the hell was in them.

He huffed. "I know the whole table silly. Care for a Shirley temple?" He Said.

"Sure." He popped open the beer cap style bottle and handed it to me.

"Ok so you write the answers I'll say them." I scrambled for my pen. There were only four questions so I was in luck. Still, I felt like I was bothering him.

"Number one is 'Krypton is a noble gas', two is 'Lead is a basic metal', three is 'Neon is a noble gas', and four is 'Boron is a semi metal." I quickly scribbled down the answers too awkward to ask again.

"How did you do that?" I asked, suddenly realizing I hadn't specified what I was asking.

"Do what, exactly?" He looked at me puzzled.

"Open bottles like that." I responded, motioning towards the half empty bottle of Shirley temple sitting next to me on the floor.

"Oh I'll show you." He grabbed his bottle and crept around me. Putting his smaller hands on top of my larger hands twisting and pulling. Once it was open he laughed, his head still in the crook of my neck. His breath smelt strongly of mint. To think about it he, in general, did indeed smell like mint. He stopped laughing and we made eye contact. He leaned in close and closed his eyes. I closed my eyes too and then, he kissed me.

oh, what a magical year this would be.
