Chapter One
I yawned loudly as I dragged myself down the stairs wearing my night dress with my one-size-too-small gown over the top. I stretched my arms as I trudged into the kitchen. Where was Trinh this morning anyway? I wondered. “I really should get a new night gown!” I said, yawning as I stretched. I peered out into the lounge-room where a somewhat good-looking guy and Trinh were staring at me. I bit my lip as I whined, hitting my head with my hand. “Idiot..Idiot..” I said to myself. Why am I always so embarrassing? First thing in the morning and I’d already embarrassed myself. I walked away slowly towards the room.
“Sorry, just a minute.” Trinh said as she got up. She quickly sprinted over and swung her arm around my shoulder. “He’s cute, right?” she asked, beaming so much her glasses were about to fall off.
“So embarrassing…” I moaned.
“Oi, he owns this house.” She said to me.
“THAT’S the guy we’ve been paying rent to?” I asked in shock.
She nodded. “And, he wants to share the house, or we have to move out. So, you wanna move out or let him share.”
“Don’t we have only two bedrooms?” I asked.
“Well, that means we have to share…” she started slowly. “I DIBS THE BED!” she quickly added. I gave a sigh.
The rent here was relatively cheap and I’d become accustomed to the surrounding area.
“What do you think? Share or move out?” I asked.
“I don’t mind sharing.” She grinned. I laughed as I shook my head slowly.
“Yeah, okay.” I agreed. “You talk to him, okay? I have to go bury myself somewhere before I die of embarrassment.”
“No!” she said, grinning. “ Just get changed and come out cause we have to discuss the contract.”
I sighed as I trudged back up the stairs. The house was two storey, it was just quite petty. It wasn’t that big or anything. It had: one bathroom, two bedrooms, one kitchen, two car parking spaces in the garage, laundry room, small teeny-weeny almost non-existent gym and one toilet. The house didn’t deserve the title of a ‘two storey house.’ Frankly, it was smaller than a normal house. Still, the rent was easy to pay so everything was still okay. Trinh made the house seem smaller by stuffing it with all sorts of random junk she bought, so it was possible to be argued that it’s her fault the house is teeny-weeny. I quickly got changed into a pair of skinny jeans and a long-sleeved chiffon top.
I hung my head in shame as I took a seat next to Trinh on the couch. We sat there and organised the contracts and finally decided that our rent would be two-thirds of what it was before, since he would be living there as well. We got the master bedroom and he got the other bedroom, my old room. I had to go shut the door as he left, since Trinh wanted to make me as embarrassed as possible. After shutting the door, I sighed loudly as I sat down on the stool by the kitchen table. One of the side-effects of sleeping in– complete and utter embarrassment because you have no idea what’s going on. The only day, the only day I decided to sleep in he had to come.
“Did you know he was coming today early in the morning?” I snapped at Trinh.
“Heheh, yes.” She grinned in reply.
“Then why didn’t you tell me!? Or wake me up early!?”
“You usually wake up early, smartie.”
“I slept waaay over and you didn’t care to even tell me, or give me a warning?”
“Calm your farm, it wasn’t that bad.”
“Wasn’t that bad!?” I exclaimed. “I walked downstairs, yawning, wearing a short night gown! I was in my pjs, and it was a dress!” I emphasised.
“Okay…maybe it was kinda bad.”
“Kinda!?”
“Okay…okay…It was bad.” She agreed slowly. “BUT…The guy was soooo cute!” she beamed as she threw herself onto the couch.
“That just makes it WORSE!”
“Fine…fine.” She said as she got up. “I’ll buy breakfast! We can eat at the corner shop just down the road or something. Plus, I get a discount cause I work there!”
“Hmm…” I said as I thought to myself. “Okay!” I beamed.
“Are you gonna wear that to go eat breakfast?” she asked.
“Yeah, why not?” I asked.
“You look so formal, it’s awkward. It’s summer…and you’re wearing jeans.”
“Well sorry, genius. Some of us are cold this morning and not as skinny as you!”
“Alright, alright.” She said as she grabbed the keys from the small basket-like thing outside that held keys and stuff like that.
I headed out as she locked the door.
“It’s cold.” She said as she shoved the keys into her short pockets.
“I told you so.” I said, rubbing it in. “But why are you cold? You’re wearing a jumper!”
“I’m wearing shorts you know!” she exclaimed.
“Smart-ass, wearing shorts and a jumper.”
She grinned. Why was she so happy about freezing to death again? Oh, that’s right…
“You wanted to impress that dude that works at the corner shop, don’t you, don’t you?” I asked, nudging her.
“Yeah.” She grinned. Really, this girl had no shame. She was absolutely hilarious, strange girl. “But he hates me.” She added.
“How do you know he hates you exactly?”
“He just does!”
“Pfft…why would he hate you?”
“Cause I annoy him.”
“You never talk to the dude!”
“But he gets annoyed easily.”
“How would you know that!?”
“I just do.” She grinned.
“You want me to ask?” I offered, even though I could never talk to a guy without going red in the face or completely embarrassing myself.
“No!” she screeched, slapping me on my arm.
“Woah, calm YOUR farm! I was joking!”
