I was in my bedroom listening to the creaking of the floor boards in my house, trying to go to sleep. I can't fall asleep! I thought in my head. I remembered what my dad said to me when I couldn't fall asleep. Imagine you are melting into the bed like a marshmallow. So I imagined I was a warm, fluffy marshmallow and soon fell asleep.

I woke up with the sun burning my face like wood catching on fire. I got out of my bed, got dressed in my silk dress, and went downstairs, the smell of bacon filling my nose. My mom and dad were already waiting for me at the table waiting to start breakfast. OK, you can do this Amy, I thought. "Mom, Dad, you know how I have this dream to go to a new island and find an undiscovered species on my own?" I said, all in one breath. My parents nodded. "I was thinking that I could go tomorrow. Is that OK?" My mom looked at my dad, back at me, and then sighed. My dad drummed his fingers on the wood table and grunted.

Please, please!!!!! I begged in my mind like my parents could hear me. "George, what do you think?" my mom asked my dad. My dad looked at me. "I mean, she is sixteen and she is really mature enough to do all of this by herself. And she can earn more money for us to use for our house and for food and water!!" My dad added excitingly, "I think she can." A big smile spread across my face. "Thank you, thank you!!!!" I said to my parents. Then I ran out side with my bright red hair flowing behind me and ideas flowing in my mind - I didn't even stop to eat breakfast.

The next morning I woke up at 6:00 to get ready for my journey. I got dressed in my best adventure dress, packed my stuff, made and ate breakfast, then wrote a note for my parents, and went out the door. I went to the market and rented a heavy and sturdy boat with the money I had left in my allowance. A man helped me bring the boat to the sea. I put all my stuff in the boat, but before I kicked off, I looked back at my small town, and then pushed off and started my journey.

I looked at my map every ten seconds to see where I was because I wanted to go off my map. For lunch I got out my dad's old tattered fishing rod and started fishing, I was used to eating raw fish at home because my parents did not have enough money to buy a stove to cook the fish. I waited . . . and waited . . . and waited, until I got a pull on the rod and I quickly realized I had caught a fish! I got out my cheap silverware and ate the fish. It didn't taste too bad. After I finished eating I looked around at the sea. I thought I saw a tree but I was probably imagining it. But no!! There was an island that was not on my map! I packed up my stuff and got ready to get off.

Something grabbed my leg. I looked down, seeing that it had claws, and I couldn't believe that I was seeing a fuzzy hand.

I woke up with the smell of wood, fresh-cut wood. Where am I? I thought. I couldn't have been at home already! I opened my eyes weakly and looked around. I was in a humid room made out of wood. I sat up and the bed I was on creaked quietly like a very old bed. I reached up to my hair to see if it was all tangled from me sleeping, and obviously it was. I looked at my watch and it said 5:34 p.m. Have I really slept that long? I thought to myself. I sat on my bed stroking my hair with my mind rushing for ideas of where on earth I could be. I heard a low growl and walked to the window, opened the curtains, and looked out. I saw a puma staring at me with his yellow eyes. I quickly got out of sight and opened the door to see where I was. I turned the corner and saw something, something unusual.

It was a small creature that looked like a bear.

I slapped my hand to my mouth to stop me from screaming in shock. I ran to the room I was in earlier and got my phone and looked up bear creatures and the bear thing I saw was not any where! Where are you! I thought. My heart was pumping like crazy. I gave up and got my notepad and pencil from my bag and ran back to the corner, sat down, and started to draw the bear thing.

It took a while to draw a clean and straight drawing of the bear creature since it was pacing back and fourth like it was guarding something, but soon I got a good drawing of it eventually. I looked at the drawing I made and saw if it looked like the bear thing. It did, so I went back to the room and wrote the date, the time, and lastly my name: Amy Evans on the paper and then took a picture with my phone. I quietly ran back to the bear thing and took a picture of it, then went back to the room to put the evidence somewhere safe. I went out side to get on my boat and put my stuff on the boat, dying to get home and show the mayor and my parents my work. When I was about to get in the boat, I heard a low growl behind me, and I slowly turned around.

The puma I had seen earlier was standing right behind me, his beady little yellow eyes staring at me. It started to run at me, and I had nowhere to go.
