Prologue
Life is strange. You never know what is going to happen to you, nor if it’s going to be good or bad. Mine turned out different than I expected it right off the bat. I was abducted by aliens. It freaked me out at first, but I’m good now… perfectly normal… at least, I wish I could say that.
My name is Sarah. We were living somewhere in Oregon when ‘it’ happened. I was playing a game in a corn field with my little sister, Marissa, and her friend, Adam. Strange things started happening, strong winds, thunder without clouds, and shaded ground burning our bare feet. But we were kids, we didn’t pay any attention to stuff like that, and went right along playing.
Then a spotlight encircled me and Adam, and we started floating up. Slowly at first, then we started to gain speed. The last thing I saw of Earth was my little sister, jumping up and down screaming, with tears sliding down her cheeks. Quite a traumatizing experience for a seven year old, I expect. Watching your sister and friend floating up into the sky. I’m glad it wasn’t me. There was a blinding flash of light and I passed out.
When I awoke, I was hooked with wires on a strange machine made of a glittery material that I had never seen before. I was sweating really bad, and I couldn’t see Adam, which brought more questions, like; ‘He was there with me right?’ or ‘Am I dreaming?’. A teenager came over and leaned really close to my face. She had long, red, wispy hair that smoked at the tips. She was really excited and kept doing flips and shouting.
This girl, who I soon learned to call Amber, told me that I was about to become a part of a war. She told me that ‘we’ were in a war against our own, neighboring planets, Jupiter, Mars, Mercury, Uranus, and Pluto, who wanted the Solar System to themselves, with Jupiter ultimately dominating. I was so confused and scared for so many months, but after that much confusion and panic, I have now learned that it’s not such a bad thing. I was a big part of a bigger war, and I was excited.Chapter 1
I woke up early that morning. Five years, to the day, since I had been taken by the people of Venus. I looked at least five years older than my current age, and my hair had even started to change to a different color, yellow to orange. My bright blue eyes dulled into a murky blue color, not near as impressive as they had been.
When I got here, they took me into a court room that exposed the pink sky and grey clouds. I felt like I was going to die from the heat, and they kept making me drink this thin blue liquid. Amber held my small hand the whole time, telling me that it would be okay. She was sixteen, and she reminded me of my friend’s sister on earth. I was so scared that I could hardly stand up strait, I lost more tears than water I drank.
The heavy set judge said a bunch of stuff that, at the time, I didn’t understand. At the end of his long boring speech everyone cheered. I was so worried about myself that I didn’t even wonder how Adam was doing. I contemplated asking Amber about what they were going to do with me, but she told me without even hearing my question. She explained what the judge was saying to me, not using near as many fancy words.
They were going to keep me? There? Forever? Why? Every question that someone in my shoes could have were chasing each other through my head. The tears were pouring down my cheeks. I missed my parents and sister and friends, and I may never see them again. Amber took me from the court room through the underground city. She showed me to my room in the official’s house. I felt important, but I didn’t want to be. I wanted to be a nobody, a loser, a nerd who nobody wanted to be friends with. But I wanted to be it at home.
I was supposed to meet in the council room in two hours to discuss my future with the representatives and Adam. But I didn’t show up. I didn’t leave my room for two months accept to use the restroom. All of my food was brought to me, and Amber visited daily. I spent my time reading books about the planets, and thinking about Earth. I matured from a little kid into an independent girl who had to fend for herself.
