Prologue
Revenge is, by definition, exacting punishment or expiation for a wrong on behalf of something or someone, especially in a resentful or vindictive spirit.
It is a powerful, dangerous emotion, not to be taken lightly. Something that brings out the very worst in people. Exposes the evil within us all that lays dormant throughout our lives, and unleashes it in volatile, senseless bursts.
It has caused immense ripples throughout human history. It has destroyed lives, extinguished races and cultures, caused devastating, worldwide destruction. Therefore we are often told to forgive and forget, that holding negative emotions such as anger and resentment are unhealthy, and will subsequently conspire against when used against others in a negative fashion. In using it to destroy another, we destroy ourselves in the process. And perhaps those words of wisdom, derived from the mistakes of the past, held true.
But some things simply cannot be forgiven.
No matter the consequences.
