I stared at the blue wall in front of me. Out of the 7 billion people on Earth, my luck had to be the worst. I’ve had an eating disorder since I was thirteen, became anorexic at 15 and as soon as I got myself help, I found out my Mom died in a car accident-go figure!
Since I found out, the week after I got out of rehab, I’d been living with my Mom’s best friend; I’d had frequent visits from my councillor. I’d been told I had to go and live with my Dad in LA. I was born and raised in New York City and now I had to leave to live with a man I didn’t know and who showed no interest in knowing me.
“Cecelia, honey?” My Mom’s friend, Gina said softly as she walked through the door of the guest bedroom. “Are you ready to go?” Gina was driving me to the airport and seeing me off, I didn’t get why, before my Mom died she never showed any interest in me, now she tries to act like my God damn sister! I sighed heavily and got up off the bed. I didn’t have any make up on, which was strange to me, seeing as how, even in rehab I always had a full face of make-up. I was wearing a dark red t-shirt that had ‘New York girl’ written in it, a pair of black skinny jeans and some ballet flats.
The car ride to the airport was completely silent, with me staring out the window; the only sound was the hum of the radio.
“Okay sweetie, call me when you land” Gina said patting my hair
“Sure” I lied, like I would!
“Bye” She smiled as I started to walk away.
The plane ride was just as silent as the car ride, well, except for the old woman next to me who wouldn’t stop talking.
I walked through the airport to see a guy-presumably a taxi driver- holding a sign with my name on it.
“Are you Cecelia?” He asked
“Yeah” I nodded.
“I’m Sean, you’re driver, you Father’s back at the house” He smiled warmly.
“Could he not be bothered to come and pick me up himself?” I grumbled, crossing my arms over my chest and following Sean out of the airport.
“It’s harder for him than you’d think” He said, opening the car door.
“A Range Rover?” I asked raising one eyebrow “Guess he’s pulling out the big guns” I said completely unimpressed. Sean chuckled as I climbed in the car. On the way to my ‘Father’s’ house I decided to check my Instagram. I hadn’t been on it since before I went to rehab and after I got out I had better things on my mind. Some of the comments on the last picture I posted were really sweet, people asking where I was, my old friends asking if I was okay but some were awful, one caught my eye: You’d make a good skeleton for Halloween!
This girl probably didn’t realise just how much that hurt. She didn’t know I starved myself, but it still didn’t give her the right to say something like that! I blinked away the tears in my eyes and locked my phone.
“Miss Monroe, we’re here” Sean interrupted my thoughts. I nodded and got out of the car. I didn’t even process how beautiful the house was, I was too lost in my own thoughts. I was snapped back to reality when Sean put his hand on my shoulder.
“He’s in there” He told me pointing to what I could only assume was the living room.
I took a deep breath and opened the door. Maybe if my Mom hadn’t died and I was completely depressed I would have cared about the fact that the man standing in front of me, my ‘Father’ was Johnny Depp, but I couldn’t care less at that moment in time. We stood there looking at each other for a couple of minutes, just as he opened his mouth to speak, I beat him to it.
“Listen, I’m 17, next July I’ll be 18 and as soon as that day comes I’ll be out of your hair, until then I intend to stay out of your way, I’ve survived 17 years without you, I’ll cope for another year” I said before walking out the door where Sean was still standing.
“So, do you know where my room is?”
