"CRY A RIVER"

"Make me smile just one more time, 'cause I've forgotten how."

                It's dark but there she is, sitting alone in front a river which gleams loneliness. Everything she is now is a complete opposite of what she was before. She has these pair of black tantalizing eyes that reflects joy. She has this tiny pinkish lips that speaks happiness. She has a heart that gives love to everyone she met. She always has an open hand to help. But everything changes. She was a bubbly girl. She was everyone's happy pill. She was a crazy friend. She was a star that shines when darkness came. She was once all these before. But all that's left was a broken girl with tears running through those eyes.

                "Have I given any less?" she asked. With a tear stained face, a bitter smile slipped on her lips, she walked her way home. At the door awaits her best friend Joice, "Where have you been this time, Emerald?" she asked the girl. Hoping for a serious answer but all that she got in response was a doleful smile. She knew that it has never been easy for her best friend to cope up with everything that had happened to her, but all that she could do is to be with her and pray to God to help her bring back her sunny best friend.

                It was one Friday night when Emerald and her boyfriend Keil, was having their dinner date on a simple restaurant somewhere near Keil's condo unit. While having small talks about random things, a girl approaches their table and greeted Keil. The girl was undeniably perfect in her eyes, with long black hair, hazel eyes, pinkish lips and a body sculpted in perfect curves and lines. "Hi! Are you one of his friends too?" she asked. "Yes, I am his friend a very close friend from the past. Am I Keil?" the other girl replied. But Keil remained silent and his eyes still stuck to the girl in front of them. "Ohh Ok. Forgive me but I didn't know you. Keil haven't mentioned you and you've never been in any of our gatherings with his friends." She replied again. "Would you mind if I sit with you?" she asked. "No, I don't mind. Have a sit." She smiled. "What's your name?" she asked. "I'm Amanda and you are?". "I'm Emerald, Keil's ---" "She's a close friend of mine, Amanda" Keil interrupted her and replied those words. And she never in her life felt that disappointed and hurt. The whole time that they were together, the atmosphere isn't the same as before. It's suffocating for Emerald. This feeling is very unfamiliar for her because she's never been in a relationship before, this was her very first. She's smiling all the while that they were together but deep inside she's being torn into pieces. She's been composed for a long time but seeing those glimpses of happiness and love in the eyes of her boyfriend while looking and talking to Amanda she stood up, smiled and said "Hi Amanda, I am not just one of his close friend, I am his GIRLFRIEND. I'm sorry to ruin your moment but I guess I've had enough. To you, my oh so called BOYFRIEND thank you for this night. It's going to leave a trace in my heart indeed. If you don't have balls to introduce me as your girlfriend to every person we'll be meeting especially your exes then you don't deserve me. Because I don't deserve to be denied by someone whom I thought loves me. If it's her then fine, just don't make me look like a fool." Turned her back and leave with tears in her eyes.

            Another night had passed for Emerald and everything seems to be dark for her still. She stood up and prepare for another day at work with nothing but her straight face. No smile, no trace of the old Emerald. It's like she wakes up every day but never lives it. And every day after her work she'll always be found sitting in front of the same river where she met Keil till the darkness eats up the bright light of the sun. And will always be asking herself this very same question "Have I given any less?" And starts crying silently again.

"Make me smile one more time baby, 'cause I've forgotten how since the day you made me cried a river."
