Wrecked

I heard a scream reverberate through the blackness. I couldn't control my body as it twisted and writhed unnaturally. A burn raced through my veins while my body convulsed trying to reject the fire inside me. Flickers of light bobbed around my head in a swirling dance when I tried to fight off the pre-positioned cloud of dark on my sight. Suddenly, I realized that the screams I had heard were my own as the actual lights of the room were switched on and I was allowed to see. The room, still fuzzy to me, looked shiny white and smelled strongly of antiseptic. I shook my head, trying to rid myself of the remaining burn, the smell of the chemicals helping cut through it; a couple of seconds later the air seemed to get heavy, weighing my form down and making every breath harder than the last.

"G-RRack," the grinding clicking clack shredded its way through the air, filling my ears and drowning out all possible thought. My mind turned fuzzy again and I was taken over by the fire in my veins.

~*~*~

My mind jolted; I was brought back, painfully, to consciousness. I moaned, grunted, then rolled over onto my back, eyes closed. There was a deep throbbing in my arms crossing over my abdomen and another in my thighs, the inside of my lungs were burned slightly like how they feel after a brisk walk on a chilly morning.

The sun shined on my face as I slowly managed to open my eyes. I was greeted with all the shades of pastel and pink, and when I forced myself to sit up the colors swayed for a moment before forming into the shapes of candies and sweets. There was a lone figure standing not too far away who was approaching not very cautiously.

The figure, which I now saw was a very petite girl dressed in a rainbow of colors, who spoke before I could even utter a syllable.

"Who are you? Why are you here? How did you get here?"

"Ahh-..." I croaked, even I didn't know the answers to those questions, "I think... I think I was put here, where ever here is. Where is here? And If I might ask who are you?" The girl's expression turned from questioning to gleeful, and all I had really asked her was her name and where I was.

"You're in the wonderful world of Sweet Rush. I'm Rain E. Bow and who are you?" Rain reached out her small hand to help me up, as I was pulled up I felt my insides twist and go sour. Before I was even halfway up, I was back down on the ground retching.

"Miss, Miss are you okay?" Rain fretted over me and gently patted my back as I gasped for air. It was amazing to me that only after a couple of minute's Rain was taking care of me like she was a mother hen. "Come on let's get you to my home, you'll be comfortable there."

Her home was a little cottage that came straight from the pages of a fairy tale and made out of candy too. The inside was the same as the outside and just as magical looking. Off to one corner was a table and a set of chairs both made of peppermint and gingerbread, on the same side was a graham cracker stove. Large windows let in light that was then tinted by the light blue drapes, which shone onto a large poofy dream-like bed enveloping the whole center of the room. I gravitated towards the softness wanting so badly to lay down on it.

"I think you should go wash up, it's this way." Her hand seized mine and almost dragged me away to the washroom separate from the main body of the cottage. "Everything that you'll need is laid out inside dear, call if you need any assistance my dear."

I quickly undressed and started the shower. It was while I was standing under the head of the shower that a thought or maybe a memory came crashing back into my mind. Maggie. Maggie. Maggie. I almost collapsed but was able to steady myself. That was my name, or at least I think it might have been at one point. The only constant name that I knew was 002; I couldn't access in my memories where either name came from, my mind had blocked it from itself.

"Dearie are you all right in there? I thought I heard something? Ma-My dear?" Rain's voice brought me back to the present.

"I-I'm fine Rain." I turned off the water and stepped out, got ready, then ventured out into the other room. Instantly, the smell of food wafted over my nose. I sat at the table, "Oh you look fabulous! I really think that I picked just the right colors for you, your eyes are a sparkling green now compared to that grungy muddled color they were before, and your hair I never knew that it could shine like that!" Rain gushed over the garments that she had picked out for me and the improvements that the shower had revealed.

I blushed and covered my face with my hair, "Thank you Rain." I paused and let the silence fill the room as I took a couple of bites, wondering if I should actually reveal my own thoughts. but Rain could be trusted she was a friend, my friend.

I hesitated for just another second before slowly and quietly speaking. "You know how things just pop into your head in the shower sometimes." Rain nodded, "Well, something popped into mine in there."

"What, what was it?" She looked excited, but I could sense an edge of something to her voice. Something that almost sounded like fear.

"I think I might have remembered, my own name." I spoke the last part very quietly. A couple of seconds of complete silence passed. My vision suddenly shuddered and images from another place waved in front of me. Bright lights, white masked heads, beeping at different paces, and distant voices some frantic, other cool and collected.

With a 'Zip' I was brought back to myself. All my senses were zapped, I couldn't control anything about me as every nerve seemed to fire at once. Then it all stopped and I slumped to the table utterly exhausted. "What happened? What happened?! Maggie what happened?!!"

My name. There was my name again. "How do you know my name?" My voice shook, I couldn't lift my head but I was able to turn it in Rain's direction.

She stood there hands over her mouth eyes wide. Seconds later her head turned upwards, "No it can't be terminating, what's going on why is it terminating? Not now!" She yelled up towards nothing but the ceiling. A shadow of terror passed over her, and her eyes shifted towards me. Rain collapsed and I could somehow sense that she wasn't unconscious but was instead very much, dead.

A ripple spread from the body of Rain, spreading towards me but I still didn't have the energy to move enough out of the way, and as the ripple reached me the sound forever etched into my memory reverberated in my skull. My vision went blurred and I felt pops against my skin.

'Pulse is dropping'

'But the heart is working twice as fast'

'It's pumping less blood'

'Internal temp is rising'

'Sir, what are you doing here?'

There was no reply to the soft slightly muted voices I could hear. My body was feeling fuzzy and weighed down. My eyes couldn't see anything more than the glare of who knows what and the shadows crossing over my body, but both of the images mixed together and became a muddled mess.

Everything cleared for a moment and I could see a man in a dark suit with a colorful pin on the lapel standing over me, but his face was mostly covered by a blue medical mask.

"I'm sorry to see that you couldn't survive it. At least we can know that that dosage isn't fit for someone of your size my dear, Maggie."

I had no idea where I was or how I had ever really gotten there, but I knew that it was that man in the dark suit with the colorful pin on the lapel's fault. He was the one that had put that overdose inside of me.

He was the one who had killed me.

I slowly and painfully passed away, the last thing I remember was the man taking off the mask and smiling down on me.
