I'm standing in a coffee shop, looking for my target, a twelve - year old girl (Hey, same as me; in human years) with black hair and brown eyes, according to the profile I got from my boss. She was kinda short, and was normally seen with a bright - pink backpack slung over one shoulder. It was that pink backpack that I was looking for. According to the intel provided to me, she was supposed to be meeting her friend at this coffeeshop at 3:30. It was 3:36 now.
I surveyed the shop again. There was a girl sitting all alone at a table in the corner. She got up and walked towards me. Emergency bells started ringing in my head, and I tensed as she got nearer. Against my every instinct, I stayed there.
"Is this seat taken?" she asked. The girl looked at me with a piercing gaze, and I had the feeling that she could see into my soul.
See into your soul? No. See into your mind, however, is something I can do. So I don't recommend lying.
That's what it was! The girl was a demon, too!
Nice Job, Sherlock. You figured it out!
Even her thoughts are sarcastic.
Remember, I can hear you.
I know, I know.
"Is this seat taken?" she repeated.
"No..."
Nice choice, not to lie. You should make more of them.
She smirked, grabbed the chair, and walked away. Setting it down opposite to her at the table, she looked expectantly at the door, just in time to see a girl walk in. A girl that matched my description perfectly, down to the bright pink backpack.
I glanced over at the other demon; she gave me a glare and I looked at my target again.
"Hey Megan!" the demon said with a grin, waving my target over.
What?! I looked back and forth between the two girls confusedly. Were these two actually friends?
"Hey!" greeted Megan, plopping down in a chair and pulling out her computer. "Is there a socket here? I need to charge this. . ."
"Yeah. There's one there, and there, and there, and there..." the demon replied, pointing to a line of sockets.
"Thanks." The girl lowered her head; her ponytail flopped off her neck, revealing her weak spot: the base of her neck. I should possess her now, while she's vulnerable . . . but something makes me hesitate.
"Do you want to go to the CVS across the street to buy gum?" the girl asked the demon.
"Sure, do you have money? I'm broke. I spent my last 21 dollars on a book of the elements."
No kidding, you're broke, I thought. You're conversing with a human, and my target human at that! What is wrong with you!
Well, I didn't know you were one of those speciesist types. And you can't posses this human because I already possessed her.
Oh come on!! I groaned. My boss is going to kill me. Not literally.
And I should care why?
Because it's illegal to just randomly possess humans, and you know it! I might not report you . . .
It's illegal to randomly possess humans, unless the human in question allows you to. I asked Megan if I could possess her, and she said yes. The other demon pulled up a memory and showed it to me.
