I stood on the pier, with my head held high, letting the salty wind play with my hair. I would have appeared confident from a distance but inside, I was emotionally crippled. Hurt, anger and shock coursed through me as I relived the events that occurred earlier today. I remembered him...her...everything.
(flashback)
"Honey, haha. HAHA, stop!" I breathed between fits of laughter as my husband tickled me.
"Not until you say it!" Adam said as he mercilessly tickled my sides.
"Ok! Ok! I love you..." I stared into his smug eyes as I contemplated whether I should finish the sentence, but warned by the playful glint in his eyes, I continued, "...macho man."
Content, he stopped the recording and pressed a few buttons on his phone. I smiled softly and studied the way his eyebrows were furrowed in concentration. Snapping out of my trance, I looked at him curiously and as if he knew what I was thinking, he simply said: "Ring tone."
I sighed and pushed him off me, grinning from ear to ear.
"You know, hun, our 5th anniversary is soon..." He whispered. Gosh, tomorrow I would be married to this beautiful man for 5 years! I had the perfect gift for him...
"How could I forget?" I replied dreamily. He laughed and jogged into the bathroom, leaving me to reflect on how lucky I was. Perfect husband, dream car, breathtaking house, amazing frien-
"I love you, macho man!" His phone buzzed. I laughed and got up to check who was calling. My heart dropped when I saw the words on the screen: 'Sweet Babe'
I paced back and forth, assumptions whirring through my mind. I stopped and glared at the phone.
"I love you, macho man!" it sang patronisingly and I stalked towards it. I needed answers now. Dragging myself across the room, suddenly feeling drained, I pressed the green button and wearily placed the phone to my ear.
"Adam, I want to see you again, babe. Does the..hehe..wifey know yet?" A smooth female voice said lowly. I punched end and dropped the phone, trapped in a state of shock. Was he cheating on me? Why now?!
"Gracy, have you seen my- what happened?" Adam asked while walking up to me in only a towel, with a worried look on his damn face. I mentally snorted at his false facade. I faced him, tears welling in my eyes. Tears of shame.
"Who is she and how long?" I breathed. When he gave me a confused look I furiously pointed at his phone and panic flew through his eyes.
"Sit down." He said, resigned. I couldn't listen to any more. My world came crashing down around me as I turned to flee, but Adam knew better as he grabbed my wrists. I kicked and squirmed but Adam was stronger and he knew it.
"You listen to me! I will tell you what happened and you will STILL LOVE ME." He growled out and his grasp on my wrists tightened substantially. I whimpered at the pain and he took that as a 'yes' to start explaining.
"I met her in a club and we hit it off. It was the month after our marriage and we had flings here and there. I started to love her but you held me down and I liked the excitement of being married while having an affair. I was never on those vacations. I was with Stacey." He explained. I snorted, Stacey. Typical name.
"W-Why did you stick with me then?" I asked, shakily.
"I stayed with you f-" He started but was cut off by the screeching doorbell. He sighed, released me and went to the door. I tentatively followed while running a hand through my hair. There stood a blonde girl in the doorway with a skimpy hot pink dress on. She was smirking at me while running her perfectly manicuredfinger along Adam's jawline.
"So....do you have enough money for our new house and the baby?" Stacey asked him. I gasped. Not only did this man have an affair, he impregnated her. I wouldn't be surprised if the baby was not even his. Adam slowly turned to me, remorse in his eyes.
"Yes, Gracy. I used you for your money..." He said in a monotone voice.

That explained why my account was always empty and how my mother's jewels had been "misplaced". I slaved over 4 jobs to get us some money while Adam lazed around. I was that love struck. Foolish.
'Stupid, stupid, stupid girl.' I scolded myself. I looked up at the seagulls calling out happily while soaring gracefully into the air. I breathed in the musky scent of the sea and took a step closer to the edge. I felt peaceful here. I was about to take another step towards the beckoning sea when a deafening voice made me freeze.
"Gracy! Wait, Please! I got rid of her! GRACY! I love you!" Adam screamed behind me. How did he find me?! I had gotten away in the nick of time and rushed here. This was my secret place, but I suppose Adam knew all of my secrets. He came closer now, standing a few metres away from me. I felt his warmth and it froze my blood. I took a step towards him and mentally guffawed at the hopefullness in his eyes.
"Don't Bother." I pitifully croaked out, cringing when my voice broke. Swiftly, I turned around and dove off the edge of the pier, plummeting to my much desired death. The last thing I heard was Adam's voice echoing in horror, the air whistling past my ears and then the splash of the sea. I sent my last thoughts from Earth and then embraced Death.
