She hiccuped and shoved her hands over her puffy, red eyes. Her body shook as she sobbed into her trembling hands. So alone.

Her gaze got stuck on her arm that was slowly leaking with a dark, red substance. Blood. She sighed and glanced at the knife sitting in front of her, her only friend.

He was the only thing that brought a smile to her face–her Mother used to but now she was always sad. She hated it when her Mother blamed herself for her daughter's depression. It was nobody's fault, except for her own. She did this to herself. Her fault that everyone she loved—loves—is keeping their distance from her. They wanted nothing to do with a girl like herself, such a bother.

He looked down at the book in front of him, it was her favorite. He blinked away the tears that threatened to fall. He should've told her–he was afraid.

It's been years since he last saw her. He moved to a different country and just recently returned to America. His parents decided to move before he could object. They moved for work.

He wondered if she was okay, hopefully she was alive.

And now–after all the years he spent apart from her, here she was, sitting beside him on the bus. How had he not noticed it was her...she's grown into a beautiful girl. Her mouth slightly parted in realization, eyebrows raised, and wide, brown eyes. Her brown hair fell just above her now big chest. How cute.

"Jacob?" She questioned, her voice wavering slightly.

He swallowed down the lump in his throat and quietly responded, "It's you...Rose."

After the incident on the bus they didn't really speak. He tried to tell her how much he missed her and regretted not saying anything before he left but the words just wouldn't come out. She didn't seem to make any attempt to speak to him.

Her thoughts were jumbled up into a huge mess. What was she supposed to say...was she supposed to be mad or happy? She didn't know, honestly, so she kept her mouth squeezed shut.

He walked through the halls after his first very boring class, Math. She wasn't in his class, he wished she was.

Rose pressed her back against her locker as she saw the girl she never wanted to see in her life. Maria glanced at her and immediately she smiled sweetly, but behind that smile...

Maria walked towards her with her two girl friends following behind like lost puppies. Rose gulped and clenched her bag with clammy hands.

"Awww look at her!" Maria sneered and stood in front of her. Rose looked down and pulled down her sleeves nervously. Please go away.

"Speak!" Maria barked, "Don't be shy~" She taunted and grabbed her bag from Rose's hand. Rose made no attempt to steal it back. "Look at me."

She reluctantly raised her head and looked at the taller girl. Her hair was white with red streaks at the tips, she wore a skirt and a very revealing shirt. Slut, Rose thought.

"Good girl." She smirked and tossed my bag to her friend, Alyssa. "Dump it." Maria commanded to Alyssa. She kept her eyes trained on me, her eyes slid down my body and back up before she frowned, "Nice clothes, dork."

Rose knew that was sarcastic, she had no sense of style and even if she did..she doubted she could afford such slutty–yet–nice clothing.

Rose watched as Alyssa and Sandy dumped out her school supplies. Maria grabbed her arm roughly, her bad arm, and tightened her grip. She knew about her cutting, she knew where it hurt.

Rose clenched her teeth and yelped a little. "Did you seriously cut again!" Maria snorted and dropped her arm. "Emo freak."

Alyssa and Sandy threw her bag at Rose. Maria stepped over her stuff that were now scattered across the floor and walked away with her friends not even glancing back at Rose.

Rose slid down the lockers and pulled her knees to her chest. Her head fell as she cried quietly to herself. She was missing class again...because of them. Emo freak. Emo freak. The words echoed through her mind. She cried harder and hugged her legs closer to herself.

"R-rose?" He called softly, he frowned as he noticed her hiccup and squeeze her eyes shut.  He walked closer.

"Go away." She mumbled and hiccuped again, "please."

She knew he didn't leave because she could hear his shoes hit the floor with each step. "Hey..." He cooed softly and sat beside her. "What happened?" He asked and looked between her and the spilled stuff worriedly.

"Nothing happened." She lied and looked away with tears still streaming down her cheeks. Suddenly, she was pulled into Jacob's warm embrace.

"You're not okay." He stated, "tell me who hurt you and I'll kill them."

"P-please...let me go." She mumbled but her arms wrapped around the boy anyway, pulling him against her as she sobbed. His fingers ran through her soft hair.

"Don't cry, Rose." He murmured and gently rubbed her back.

Minutes passed as the two embraced one another silently and for a second–a split second–she felt somewhat happy.
