Josh's POV
Today. You wanna what today is? I'll tell ya it's Maya's 18th birthday. The girl I've been waiting on for 2 years is finally eighteen. My brother, Topanga and her parents are having a party for her today at Topanga's. She doesn't know I'm coming. I told her I had to to study for my final tomorrow, I don't have final. I just wanna surprise her hy doing something special. We promised each other when she turned 18 we would finally be together. I've went on dates with other people and so did she. She even dated Zay for 4 months but it didn't work out cause Zay knew how Maya felt about me.
I'm currently waiting at my apartment for Maya to get here so I can see her since she knows I won't be able to make the party. I get out my books and pretend to study. Maya should be here in like 30 minutes. All my thoughts were on tonight. Everything about her makes me smile. When she's mad, being silly, or even protecting Riley, which she has Lucas for that now, but Maya will go to war for Riley. That's one of the many the many thing I love about her. Her protection over people.
Everyone is getting Topanga's ready for the party. Maya came by my apartment and we talked for a little bit. She was upset that I couldn't come to the party. I hated that I had to keep this from her she didn't deserve it. Riley called me and told me that she's upset but she understands. Maya and I have talked everyday since the Ski Lodge. She's my best friend. I couldn't imagine my life without her.
The party is starting shortly and I'm sitting in Cory and Topanga's apartment. I'm nervous. This is the night I ask her to be my girlfriend, my forever. I was in my thoughts till I heard the door open and close. It was Shawn. I know why he's here it's the "you hurt my daughter, I hurt you" speech. I don't blame him. I couldn't hurt Maya. "Hey Shawn. I know why you're here. The don't hurt my daughter speech. I couldn't even think of hurting her. She means so much to me and more." I said. If I was to ever huty Mays I'd hurt myself. "That's not the reason I'm here. I'm here to give you mine and Katy's blessing. Katy sees how happy you make Maya and so do I. We've always told Maya she didn't need a man to make her happy, but here we are. Katy is not here with me because her and Maya are out shopping till it's time for the party to start. Josh, you've had a rough start to the world and I was there to talk to you. We've always had an amazing connection and I'm honored to hopefully call you my son in law one day. Katy and I couldn't think of a better man for our baby girl. So this is my blessing and I'm giving it to you. Take care of her." Before I could say anything Shawn was already out the door to go back to the party. I'm glad Shawn and Katy gave me their blessing.
I was walking to down to Topanga's to go to the party. I got there and looked through the window to to Maya talking to her parents smiling. That smile. That smile is my favorite thing about her and those eyes. Those baby blues. Maya Hunter will be the death of me. Yes, I said Hunter. Shawn adopted Maya. I walk inside sneaking past Maya to find Riley and Lucas. I found them sitting in the corner of the bakery. I swear if Lucas hurts her I will hurt him. "Hey Guys." Oh look I'm talking to myself what else is new. "Hey Josh." Hopalong said. "We are glad you are here to make it official with Maya." Lucas said. "Yeah, uncle Josh. Maya is extremely happy when you are around and that's all I've ever wanted for her. I've come to the terms she's gonna be my aunt because the way you talk about her to me I couldn't picture you not proposing to her. She's your happiness and your hers." Riley said. She has a point I couldn't picture my life without her.
Watching Riley and Lucas be a couple and see the way he treats her I couldn't him not proposing either. Oh boy Cory is gonna flip the day Lucas asks for Riley's hand in marriage. I'm nervous I've never been this nervous. "Josh, what are you doing here? You told me you had to study for a final." That's what I heard. Her voice
Maya's voice. "I wanted to surprise you. I didn't really have final." Here it goes. All eyes on me. This is it. The moment I tell her how I feel. "Actually, I'm here to do something that we've both waited for a really long since that night in the Ski Lodge. We've always said we'd play the long game. We don't have to play anymore. Maya, you're 18 and I'm 21. I couldn't imagine my life without you. You're the best past of me. My better half. My heart. My soulmate. You're my person. You're the one I wanna wake up to every morning. The one I wanna have fights with. The one I wanna have kids with. The one I wanna make laigh everyday and sometimes cry. I'm in love you with Maya. So, with that being said, will you be my girlfriend?" After what seemed like hours of silence she finally said the words I wanted hear.
"Yes, Josh. Yes, I'll be your girlfriend. I'm in love with you too and I don't wanna be with anyone else."
I grabbed her hand and interlocked our fingers. I put her hand to my mouth and kissed it. "Good. There's no more long game, Maya. It's me and you now."
"Good. I wouldn't have it any other way. I love you Joshua Gabriel Matthews. "
"I love you too Maya Penelope Hunter."
