This time in my life is probably the most vivid memory I will ever have, which I will remember for the rest of my life.

once my mom and this man were dating they decided to get a flat together, a small flat. They thought they were finally "on their feet" and could manage this responsibility... they were obviously incredibly wrong.

Once we were moved in everything very quickly nose dived. At first it was okay, there was nice furniture a cool tv, and we had food on our plates. But one by one, everything was vanishing quicker than it came, first the couches, then the coffee table, then the tv... then the electricity and finally... the food. We would sit everynight, once my brother and I were home from school, and our homework was done, we'd sit by the front door with a single candle and the light of the passage way in the flat to read our books.

I remember the taste of the rice and cheese spread that we ate for supper one night like it was yesterday, we didn't even have a single slice of bread for the cheese... just rice. At the time I didn't really take note of how bad it was, I didn't ever come from a wealthy background from what I can remember.
