Juney-Bear

"June... if you can hear me... please - wake up. For me. Please." Alex says his voice cracking. "Do you remember how in second grade everyone called you Juney-Bear?" He says with a sad chuckle. "I love- I love you June. I need you to wake up. I know you don't know it but I can't stop thinking about you. All day and all night so please wake up." He says before collapsing into a deep slumber on the couch next to her.

June awakes in a hospital she looks around and sees nobody. Or so she thinks. After a moment of looking around she notices a figure a sleep on the couch next to her. The figure being Alex. The couch is close enough to touch so June grabs his hand. He awakes at the movement and stares at June his eyes wide. "You don't know how happy I am to see those green eyes June!" He says happily his eyes dark from the lack of sleep. June frowns when she notices how tired Alex looks. "How long have I been asleep?" June asks nervously. Alex is now standing next to the hospital bed still gripping her hand. "Too long." He says with a single rear rolling down his cheek. June wipes the tear away from his face and says softly "Hey, stop checking me out." As she notices him staring into her eyes. Alex smiles and says I couldn't even if I wanted to." With that a girl walks into the room her long white hair tied into a messy bun and a boy the same age coming in behind her. "Aria?" June says confused. June attempts to sit up but a little too quickly nd she winces from the headache she receives. "No. Please don't. I can't stand to see you in pain June." Alex says as he quickly supports June in sitting up. June glances up at Alex before breaking into a grin. June looks back over to Aria and Jayden starring at them with stern faces. "You were right. It was daddy." Aria says suddenly. At the mention of her father June starts feeling light headed. Her breathing becomes scarce and grips Alex's hand. "Don't let him-" she pauses her eyes drooling and her breathing becoming even heavier "I... love you too Alex...." she says before falling into darkness once more. Alex's eyes darken with pain. "No. June. Please. I can't loose you when I just got you. It's not fair! June! Don't go." He yells before collapsing into tears. He hugs June. Arias eyes widen as she realizes what happened. "I- I- June?" She stammers. She steps backward bumping into Jayden before running out the door. "Aria- Wait!" Jayden yells before running after her. Luna comes in a few moments later yelling "Your awake!" Before noticing Alex hugging June's unconscious body while sobbing. "B-but what happened?" Luna says. Alex looks up at her sadly and retells the events of earlier. Luna looks at Alex then back at June. "Go home. Or at least sleep. She knows you were here when she woke up already. You can't keep staying here. It's been three months and you haven't left this hospital." Luna says after a while. Alex looks down at June before shaking his head. "My life-" he begins "it's all right here. June is my sun my stars my- my everything." He says slowly. "I will stay here until June finally knows how I feel about her. I was forced to watch her from a distance always so close but still not close enough. This time. This time I won't watch from a distance, okay? I'm not leaving." He says with power in his voice. Luna nods understandingly before disappearing through the door way. Alex looks down at June once more. "I won't leave you June. I will be here until you tell me to leave. Even then, I can't promise I will." He says softly kissing her forehead. "And if I don't want you to? Would that be selfish?" June says her eyes fluttering open. Alex stares at her. "Could you hear everything I've said?" He asks. June smiles again "Don't you think it's a little too soon to be falling in love with me, you big dummy?" Shes says jokingly. Alex looks at her. Her light skin radiant her auburn hair cascading over her shoulders. Her dark green eyes twinkling as they look up at him. "Not soon enough." He says before sending a hand through June's hair. She smiles and moves over in her bed making room for Alex. She pats the space next to her motioning for him to sit down. He sits holding her hand as she lays her head on his shoulder.
"Hey June?" Alex says looking down at her hand. "Yeah?" June says immediately. "About what I said earlier..." he starts. "Which one because I believe I also recall someone calling me Juney-Bear too." She says with I smile but not removing her eyes from their intertwined hands. "Well... both." Alex says doing the same as June. They sit in silence for a few moments before June looks over at Alex and notices him staring at her again. "I meant it all. As soon as your out of here," Alex says motioning to the hospital room "I'll prove it to you." He finishes. June smiles kissing him on the cheek and says. "I'd like that." Aria, Ember, Luna, Mason, Marcus, and Jayden all file into the room shortly after. Ember lifts an eyebrow noticing her older sisters hand tangles in Alex's hand. "So... are you two, like, finally a thing? I mean the guy literally hasn't left the hospital in three months so he didn't have to leave your side. Your lucky we're still on summer break." Ember says breaking the silence. June laughs "No... we aren't 'a thing'..." June starts as Alex's face falls with disappointment. "Yet." June says sneaking a glance at Alex who was still sitting next to her. Luna walks over next to June and whispers into her ear. "He asked me to be his girlfriend... and I said yes!" June's eyes lighten with delight. She has known about Luna's crush on Mason for a while now, shes liked him since she was 13. Mason walks over to Luna's side and lightly drapes his arm around her waist while kissing her on the cheek. Luna's pale cheeks turn a rosy color as she smiles at Mason. "Ahem! My turn!" Aria says impatiently. Luna giggles and swaps places with Aria and Jayden. "I'm sorry about before, June," she started but she stops her. "It's okay Aria. It wasn't your fault my monster of a father is well... a monster." June says. Aria nods. "Well, um, Jayden and I are friends-" she's starts but gets interrupted by Alex who coughs "With benefits." June's eyes widen and she swats Alex's shoulder. "Ow!" He yells as June begins laughing. "Would you lovebirds cut it out!" Aria interrupts. June clears get that's and motions for her to continue. "Anywayssss! Jayden and I are friends. ONLY friends. I met someone else and this oaf," she says motioning towards Jayden "has a girlfriend now." June smiles and hugs Aria. "Good!" She says as Ember and Marcus take their spots. "Okay. So Marcus and I are friends..." Ember says sadly. "Even though we may seem like more she says looking at Marcus arm he has dropped over her shoulder. "He- uh..." Ember stops and begins sobbing as June pulls her into a hug. "He's awful! He kissed me B-but he-he-" Ember begins. Suddenly Marcus taps her shoulder. As she turns around wiping her tears Marcus gets down on one knee. He takes her hand and pulls out out a velvet box. "What the heck I'm only 16! I can't get engaged!" Ember yells with wide eyes. Marcus laughs and kisses her hand. "I know Ember. That was a joke, but this isn't." He says as he stands up. He kisses Ember and looks into her vibrant green eyes. "Will you be my girlfriend?" Marcus finally says and pulls him into a hug before saying "Yeah!"
"Marcus what's with the box?" June asks once the happy moment is over. Marcus looks at her questioningly before understanding "Ohhhhh, it's for you." He says tossing the velvet box to June. She turns her head to look at Alex who has a goofy grin on his face. "No it's not selfish to answer you question from earlier. Oh and to answer your other question even if you didn't want me to you'll have to deal with the fact that I'm staying." He says. June narrows her eyes at him before opening the box. There is a note inside.

My dearest June,
Please know that this is not marriage proposal. We still have to finish highschool before you would ever say yes. This is more like an invitation. Meet me at my house at 4 pm tomorrow afternoon.

By the time that June looks up from the note she notices that Alex is gone. He couldn't be far, she thinks, he wouldn't leave the building until I woke up- ohhhhh. I'm awake. After June's mental conversation with herself she frowns. "Alex! Come back!" She whines. Suddenly Alex pops in from the doorway. "I wouldn't leave Juney." He says with smile. He sits back down on the bed next to her as everybody else leaves the room. Once again June grabs a hold of Alex's hand and slips away to the darkness of sleep.
