As the girls face this man that's in a black suit, the girls straighten their backs, looking less joyful and little more of a stern expression on their faces. But, this man cannot be fooled, for he knows his own two eyes has seen the girls when he looked out the window on the second floor from the logged house that he was in.
His arms were folded in back of him. He had white cleaned gloved hands, a stubble: three days after his beard & mustache was shaved, formally dressed from head to toe, and a hat hovering his rounded head, so it could hide his gray hair. This man just stares at the girls as his face appeared expressionless.
What do ya know, it's the Mayor.
Elizabeth's POV
The Mayor clears his throat and he says, while I hear a hint of a southern accent,
"What do we have here? Two young ladies having fun, I see. Hmm, haven't I made it clear 'at everyone is not s'pose to be in a weather like this one that we are currently standing in? You know we have had these strange weather changes that have been serious for quite some time now."
He raises his eyebrow as he looks from me to Alina and back to me when we keep quiet instead of replying to his question.
"Well?" the Mayor asks impatiently.
" Yes, Sir, you have. We know about that." I replied quickly.
"But, mayhap that we have forgotten just a moment about it," Alina added.
He frowns and puffs out his chest as he replies," Hmpf, I see. I reckon it was a couple of those troubled bo--"
"Oh! No, Sir" I interrupted, "there were no others that was involved to misplace your words from our minds! It was just Alina and me wandering around and not thinking about it is all. We're sorry, Sir."
The Mayor fidgets with his watch in his tux coat pocket as he thinks, for opening and closing it continously was one of the habits of his.
He says," Hmm... Okay, I shall believe this one time. I have heard---" He pauses, and soon, he was quiet again with his thoughts.
I look at Alina who looked back at me and she shrugged.
I ask him gently as I raise my eyebrow questionablly," 'You have heard' what, Sir?"
After a moment, he shook his head and replies,"Oh, nothing. Never mind about it."
He blushes and then continues,"Now, you run along. I'm sure both of your parents are wondering where you gals are, no? And, Alina, I'm sure yous and Hansel are just about ready for the upcoming wedding, yes?" He smiles gently at her.
My heart stopped for a moment when he said that, trying not to show of how I felt: jealousy, hatred, and disappointment, after he mentioned about the wedding. I fold my arms in the back of me, tightening my fists when I know my knuckles will turn ghostly white.
Alina blushes, looking at me for a moment, and soon looked at the mayor, pretending to show enthusiasm,
"Yes, sir. VERY excited indeed. " She slightly chuckles as she continues to blush, now biting her lower lip.
He nods, not noticing, and replies," Good, sweetie. "
Tilting his hat off his head, he then smiles once more.
"I must go now. I have a meeting with the important people. You both best go, too, young ones."
Frowning, why would he be having a meeting? He usually doesn't. Most likely when there's something wrong. I ask him curiously," Sir, is there something wrong that made you have a meeting with these people?"
