When I was little I would.... wonder. And, yeah, it almost got me killed once or twice. But there was always the silver man. Actually I had no idea it was a man until that night. Every time I would mess up, the Silver man would fix it. One time when I was four, I was dragging my mom across town to go get my favorite food, when I looked back while I was running to make sure she was there. I was like a deer in headlights. Literally, I almost got hit by a truck. Almost... I would have unless the Silver man didn't somehow carry me across the street in the blink of an eye. And yeah, that wasn't the first time I've owed him my life. But then there was the night he gave me his.

I was home. Alone. My mom called earlier and was running late. I did the things all 8 year-olds do. I wondered around the house. I gazed at the pictures of my mom and dad. My mom told me my dad disappeared after a phone call. His last known words were "I figured it out, this changes everything. This is going to save the world." I had convinced myself he was just acting crazy to get away from us.

There was a knock on the door. I swung the door open, expecting to see my mom, but it wasn't. It was a man with a gun. "Sit on the couch. Quietly" I was to scared to do anything, so I did what he said. He stunk of garbage and cigarettes. He told me not to get up or he'd shoot me while he started stealing our stuff.

The lock in the door turned. It was my mom. And at that time, I realized my mom wasn't the strongest person in the world like I thought. She stepped through the door, ran to me as I screamed for her to leave. She was trying to calm me down and explain when the man stomped down the hall. "I told you not to get up, no second chances." and then it happened. Two bang. As the second bullet was released, the Silver man bolted through the door, and I don't mean slam it open, he somehow phased through the door? Yeah, phased. But he was too late. One of them had already gotten to my mom, but he managed to grab the other one. The man with the gun bailed out the door. As my mom died, bleeding out on the couch, I didn't say anything, how could I. When her eyes closed, I looked up to the Silver Man. He wasn't blurry anymore, it was a man in what looked like a race car drivers suit.He looked familiar. But then I looked closer, he didn't catch the second bullet. He got shot too. He started to fall to his knees.

"Why?" I muttered

"Because," He coughed "You're going to be amazing.......... Now run." As he fell to the floor, I heard police sirens from outside. I followed the man's instructions and ran out the back door, all the way to the park, where they couldn't find me. Then I realized

The Silver man was my father.
