Imagine coming back home after a long, stressful day to find your home all messed up and trashed. Now multiply that irritation by a hundred. You still won't be as shocked and annoyed as I was when I came back to Camp Half-Blood to discover it destroyed.
Not that I counted it as my home, of course. I was a vagabond who roamed around with no permanent home. Sure, Camps Jupiter and Halfblood invited me to stay with them, but I knew I would still be isolated there. I had no real friends, and plus, who would want the son of the death god around them?
Anyways, back to the point.
"Holy Hephaestus! What happened?" My eyes grew wide as I looked around. Not one cabin seemed to have been spared from the destruction, as all the cabins had been destroyed. Even the main house, as big as it was, had pieces of wood sticking out of it, as if a giant had taken a piece of wood and had used it as a toothpick.
Then I saw something more surprising than all the mess: the campers.
Or rather, I didn't see the campers.
There wasn't a camper anywhere near me, which was surprising, since I knew how crowded the camp got in the summertime. Once, we even had to move some people over to Camp Jupiter for a bit!
"Guys?"
There was no way Chiron would have left the camp unattended, or would have wanted the campers to get hurt. But even if they had left, where would they go? It wasn't like they would go out into the city and stay in a hotel. That was like going into an arena, filled with lions who were ready to kill you, but even worse. Unless they had a death wish, I was a hundred percent sure that they would have gone to a safe sanctuary somewhere in the camp.
The question was: Where?
Running around the camp, I found a scratched up water fountain which surprisingly still worked. Fishing around my pocket, I grabbed my last drachma and and threw it into the water spraying out, and watched as the coin disappeared.
"Oh Iris, goddess of the Rainbow, please accept my offering. Show me Chiron!"
Instantly, an image, though hazy, popped up, showing the centaur mending wounds with Will Solace.
"W-woah, what happened?!" There was no way I had just missed another big war, right?"
Chiron looked up, looking older and much more weary than I had ever seen him.
"Ah, you have returned at last. Sorry about the display-" He motioned towards the injured campers,"-But we had some trouble while you were gone."
"No kidding. Where are you guys? I can't find you."
"Well, of course not. We are in hiding."
That's when I recognized his surroundings. It was Bunker 9, the secret Hephaestus base area.
"Alright, I'll be at Bunker nine in a few minutes. Try to help as much demigods in the meantime.
The centaur smiled. "Of course."
With a whiff of my hand, the image dissolved, and I ran towards the secret location.
