I found myself awake, staring into the darkness of a room. It should've just been like the darkness of my room at night, but this was different. It was much darker. I craned my head to what I assumed to be the ceiling to reasure myself that I am just caught between my dream state and reality. Which would also explain why everything feels completely different.
I froze.
It wasn't there. My alarm clock that shines the time on my ceiling isn't there. It's always there. Even if it wasn't plugged in or the power went out, it comes with backup batteries. I covered my eyes with my hands because it didn't matter whether they were open or not.
Maybe it got unplugged somehow and it ran out of back up batteries. Nothing to freak out about.
My eyes wandered around the darkness until they focused in on the sole light of the room. There, a single dull light, hung from a slinder cord in the center of the room, yet contrary to what its job is suppose to do, didn't seem to illuminate anything around it. The light the bulb provided didn't even reach the ground as it only served to show that there was a glass bulb. I couldn't even make out the color of the ground the light hung over. There were sillouets of people, but my head hurt so bad that I didn't put any thought of logic to it whatsoever. I slowly pushed myself from where I lay on a cold ground, shaking my head in disbelief. The darkness was beginning to really disturb me. I felt my stomach pinch harder than it already was.
Where am I?
This didn't make sense. I'm definitely not in my room or even in my house. The dull ache in the back of my head seemed to intensify the more I thought about it. I tried to swallow but it felt like sandpaper and I gasped in pain. To add onto it, I had a bad taste on my tongue and my head felt like a heavy fog settle in with no intention of lifting. The room began to spin and tilt. I took a deep breath, and immediately wished that I hadn't. The rank smell of sweat and tears was heavy in the room. The smell made my throat tighten and my stomach turn. Saliva began to wet the back of my throat and I knew what was coming. Bile rose up and out of my mouth. I heaved while I supported myself on a wall I didn't even know was there. My eyes teared up and I wanted nothing more than to curl up in a ball and sleep, despite the warning sirens blaring off in my head that something was terribly wrong. I stumbled a bit until I tripped over something. I took a nosedive into the ground and it sent shockwaves through my skull.
Do I want to get up? Definitely not.
Still lying down, I curled in a ball while sleep decended unpon me like a heavy rain.
I woke up with a jolt of pure terror. I didn't need a fortune cookie to tell me that wherever I am is a death trap. I knew that death awaits all who come here. The moment I fully realized that I couldn't wake myself up from this nightmare, I screamed.
I don't know what to do. What do I do?
Paranoia mixed with the darkness and everything became worse.
Remember I need to remember. Where am I? No clue. Pitch dark room? I have a wood floor and a ceiling fan that I never turn off. This is...not....my home. What is the last thing I remember before waking up?
I tried to picture it in my mind but nothing came. The darkness was even making it impossible to think.
The musty smell returned to me and reminded me that wherever I am, is nowhere I've ever been or ever should be again. I started banging on the walls and kicking, but nothing happened.
This can't be happening!
I couldn't think straight which led to me beating the walls until all the terror pent up inside of me, ran out. After what seemed like hours, I stopped sweaty but strangely calm. There is nothing else I could do.
