I got home and called Layla. "So who is this gorg Carter Riley? He was watching my routine and then called me beautiful!" I screeched. "Oh yeah. He's got some personal problems." She said in a non-energized tone. "Umm..Okay. Don't we all?" I asked flustered. "Yeah, but his are... Something else. I have to go, my sister is back from college, see you tomorrow." "Okay bye." I couldn't help but wonder what "personal problems" meant exactly.
It's Monday and it's the first day of school, honestly I'm really scared to see how everyone reacts to me coming back. Although, I'm so excited to see my classes. I mean, it is high school and it's four years of prison pretty much. I have a feeling that I might actually enjoy the first day of school for once. *Ding Ding* A text from Layla. "Eeekkkk! Are you excited??" "Maybe. I don't know." I stopped thinking and I tried to be optimistic. I got ready and bolted down stairs. "Good morning! Ready for school?" My mom asks. "Sure I guess. Where's dad?" "He's sleeping, he leaves to Oregon today. I'll let him know you said bye." My mom says. "Okay, good." I say as I rush everything into my backpack. I grab a protein shake from the fridge and a bagel. "Can you drive me?" I ask Caleb while I stuff my face. He nods. "Here's your lunch Jade." My mom hands me my lunch. "Thank you, love you." I walk out to the car and wait for Caleb.
"Jade, you do know you have about half an hour left right?" Caleb asks. "Yeah I do, but I need to get my schedule and stuff." We get to school and I say bye to Caleb. I walk in and I see Layla. "JADE!" Layla waves her hand where I can see it. I greet her with a big hug. She shows me to the office and I get my paperwork. "Oh my gosh. Is that Carter?" I ask Layla. "Yeah it is." She says rolling her eyes. Don't approach him, don't approach him, don't approach him. I think to myself. "Jade right?" He approaches me. Damnit. Layla stands there waiting for me to answer. "Um, yeah." I respond with some shakiness in my voice. "Did you get your schedule? Here, I'll show you around." He says as he starts grabbing my papers from my hands. "See you around Layla!" Carter says as we walk off. Layla seems fine with Carter and I, but the definition of "personal problems" still lingers in my thoughts.
"So this is Mr. Owens room, he is the chemistry teacher. He is who you have first period. Wait. We have second period class together!" He starred waiting for a reaction from me. "Oh nice!" I respond it feels like an hour later. "This is Mr. Mires algebra and Mrs. Heeley AP Spanish." He continues to show me around and we came to the conclusion that we have 3 classes together. The bell rings and he hands me back my schedule. He had a long sleeve shirt on and when he reached out his hand to give my paper back to me, I saw a cut. A big and deep cut. "Oh my goodness, are you okay?" I ask him concerned and a little freaked out. "I'm fine. I'll see you around." And Carter walks away.
"Good morning class, I'm Mr. Owens and I am your chemistry teacher. So before we get started, I will be giving your assigned seats. These seats will last until thanksgiving break is over. The person that you sit next to will be your lab partner for the time being. If you have any questions or concerns, you may see me after class. Alright let's get started." So there he goes, assigning people their seats. "Jason Oakley and Jade Emily." I hear about 7 girls sigh as if they would kill to sit next to Jason. I take my seat and automatically he starts starring. He smells good. And it's not a cologne scent either. I started to write my name. "You have nice handwriting by the way." Jason says. "Thank you." This class should be interesting..
First period is over and Layla is outside the door waiting for me. I walk out and Layla and I chat for a little before we start walking to our next class. "How do you like it so far?" Layla asks. "So far, so good. By the grace of God." Carter comes up to us to walk me to my next class. I hug Layla goodbye and I continue to walk with Carter. "How was class?" He asks. "It was pretty good. I got assigned lab partners with this guy named Jason." I respond. "Oh yeah. Jason Oakley. All the girls like him. He seems like an angelic little thing but looks fool." I let that seep in and I'm glad he's already warning me.
We both get to class and I realized I forgot to ask for my pencil back from Jason. "Carter, do you have a pencil I can borrow?" He thinks about it for a moment. "Yes I do. It's in my front backpack pocket." I drag his backpack over next to me and I reach into the pocket. As I'm scrimmaging through the pocket I find something so odd that I can't get it through my head.
Is that.. a blade?
