Indestructible
I am this way because this is the way that I was made.
I am not perfect, I make mistakes.
And they judge me still; their words meant to be blades.
But I will not bite, because I am not afraid.
No matter what they say, they cannot hurt me;
For I am indestructible, through the strength of my will,
and they cannot destroy me,
For I am meant to be free, not submitting on my knees.
They call me weak, because I don't fight back.
I say I am strong, because I can walk away.
They call me stupid, because I don't respond.
I call myself smart, because instead of replying,
I just turn my back.
They call me ugly, because I don't dress like them.
I call myself beautiful, just because I don't look the same.
They show me hate, because I'm not one of them.
I show them indifference, because it doesn't affect me.
They call me an outsider, because I clearly do not fit in.
But I don't care, because I don't need them.
To abolish, to eliminate and to discriminate is what they seek,
But they can find no purchase, because I turn the other cheek.
I know who I am, and I know I might be strange-
But not for anyone, will I be changed.
