I stretched and let out a yawn before shutting off the television. It was way past the time I should have been in bed and I know I will regret it in the morning. Walking towards the table, I pat my cat on the head who rewards me with a hiss before running away. I can't help but roll my eyes at his 'better than you' behavior. But then my eyes catch the lock to my door. I didn't remember it being unlocked. And then I notice it. The delicate and careful way it is being turned. My heart thuds in my chest as my blood goes cold. I'm not expecting any visitors, especially in the dead of night! I run to the door and push against it; locking it quickly. I grit my teeth as I use all of my body weight against it. I've never regretted moving out of my parents house and living alone... Until now. Suddenly the quiet house is full of the harsh noise of large knuckles against the flimsy door. Whoever is on the other side of the door is now pounding on it. The person on the other side of my door is knocking hard enough to shake the door and rattle the house. It takes me a minute or two to work up the courage to look out the small window on the door. My heart stops as I realize no one is there. My porch is bare though the knocking continues. I let out a gasp and suddenly the pounding stops. I pull away from the door, my hand pressed against my mouth as the sounds of claws scratching against my door fills the home.
