Back when I was 12 years old, I had always loved police work. I would often observe my parents at work, catching criminals, sifting the villains out of the common folk.
In the year 2112, police work had made a major technological advancement. Tasers have become safer, and the armour more bulletproof. Criminals were given psychological treatment, and given a chance to redeem themselves.
My parents had changed the police force for the better, investing million upon millions for this cause.
They were considered heroes.
But not all heroes are viewed though the same looking-glass.
There were always people who went against the norm. A good example are the rebels, who call themselves "Hawks". They didn't like the increased control the police had. I say it's for the benefit of the people, but sadly not everyone reasons the same way
It was the 21st August. It was a cold Sunday afternoon, and I had just come back from school. I went though the same routine as always, I did my homework, had a bath...
Just as I dressed up in my house clothes, I heard a tremendous crash from downstairs, shouting voices and.....gunshots.
I ran downstairs....
There lay my parents, face up in a pool of blood. They were riddled with bullet holes.
My face drained of all colour as I fell to my knees beside them in horror. Scalding hot tears ran down my face as I cried, weak...alone.
Then I saw a small badge, with a Hawk emblem. It was left behind, most probably it fell out of the attacker's pocket.
My face contorted with hate...anger
A thirst for vengeance

(Nick's P.O.V)
I sighed as I looked at my phone.
"21st August....2121. Both the anniversary of my parent's death, and a lucky date" I smiled weakly as I put my phone away.
"Hey, Nick. Quit wasting time and get in position" a man in S.W.A.T uniform hissed. He was Lieutenant Chris Mendoza, and I was his team-mate. We were sent on an infiltration mission. Our target was an abandoned warehouse, and I was set up to provide support fire.
"Yeah yeah, I got this" I grinned as I lay down on my belly, setting up my sniper rifle and aiming it for the warehouse door.
MAN, do I love sniping. It's been a passion ever since I first enrolled into the S.W.A.T team and I've become extremely good at it.
"This is Lieutenant Mendoza. Alpha team is ready. Awaiting status update from Beta team" Chris murmured into his headset.
"This is Beta Team. Charlie and Delta are in position" a disembodied voice squawked from the headset.
"Okay.....COMMENCE OPERATION" Chris barked as he charged to the warehouse door.
I kept my breathing calm as I observed the teams entering the warehouse. I kept in radio contact.
After a few silent minutes, I head guns roaring and everything fell silent again.
"Hostiles eliminate-" Chris said through the radio before he was cut off by something.
There was silence....then choking noises.
"Chris? You alright buddy?" I asked worriedly.
"Don't worry, Chris is just fine..." a female voice purred, before a smashing sound could be heard. "Well...at least he was"
"YOU BITCH! WHAT DID YOU DO TO CHRIS!?" I screamed as I jumped to my feet.
"Now now, that's no way to talk to a lady, is it?" the female voice continued, before the line went dead.
I raced down to the warehouse, sniper rifle in hand. The scene....shocked me.
There were dead cops everywhere...and some of them weren't from our team. I spotted something shining, and I picked it up.
"A...hologram projector....?" I whispered as I inspected it.
"Hey, you're not as dumb as I thought you were" the female voice from before pipped behind me.
I spun around and pointed my sniper rifle at her...yet she remained perfectly calm.
"Woah there, talk about rude" she huffed, striding towards me. She had multi-coloured hair and sapphire blue eyes. She wore a loose shirt and....cargo pants? Clearly her fashion sense left much to be desired.
"Identify yourself" I hissed, aiming my gun at her face.
"Name's Liz...and yours?" she grinned, having a bloodied bat in her hand.
"Classified" I spat, pushing the barrel of my gun at her.
"You're so rude...and I was just about to give you a present too!" she quipped, before she pulled out a revolver and shot me in the stomach.
I gagged as I fell to the ground, holding my stomach wound. She knelt down beside me.
"The Hawks will rule over this sullen land...tainted by people like you" she smiled icily.
As soon as I heard Hawks, I remembered my parents death.
"YOU FUCKS MURDERED MY FAMILY" I screamed as I punched her in the face, causing her to fall backwards. I tried to reach for my gun.
"Heh, nice punch" Liz commented as she kicked my gun out of reach. "Have you never wondered...why?" she smiled as she applied pressure to my wound, taking out a bandage.
"I DON'T NEED YOUR HELP" I tried to punch her again, but my strength was failing me.
"Your parents...they were as corrupt as corrupt can be. Sure they fought for truth and justice....but as soon as a rich criminal waved some money in front of their nose..." she said while she bandaged my wound. "You'd be shocked how quickly they cooperated"
"STOP...lying!" I mumbled as I was starting to faint.
"Lying? Me? How could you say that" she pouted as she finished bandaging my wound.
"My...parents....would never..." I started, the world turning black before my eyes.
"So loyal, yet your trust is misplaced, boy..." Liz sighed as she punched me in the face, knocking me out completely.
"So misplaced..." is all I heard as the world turned to black.
