The rest of the day passed by in a mundane fashion. I didn't see much of Travis after the meeting. I think it was best that way really considering our rather eventful morning. I became familiar with Travis' schedule and what I was expected to do around the office. I noticed that Travis was due to travel around a lot for the next few months so I had to do all the planning for his travels. I wondered whether I'd be forced to go with him or not. Hopefully not. I just didn't want to think about what could happen between us if we were alone and in a foreign country. A furious heat started to burn from the pit of my stomach and I had to force myself to leave that train of thought. I couldn't reignite any feelings that I once had for Travis. He got me knocked up and didn't even care to find out about the consequences of his one night stand with me. He left me to deal with being pregnant at a young age and to give birth virtually alone and then I had to give my sweet little girl away for her own good. I was just happy to know that she was with a good family at least. I often wondered about my sweet girl and wondered if she was happy. But I couldn't get caught up in those thoughts. I physically shook myself out of my thoughts and then got my things ready to leave for the day and made my way home. My first day was officially over and it hadn't gone as horribly as I had thought it would.
When I got home, Alice wanted to know everything. She wanted to know if anything had happened with me and Travis. Though it had, I lied to her and told her that I'd hardly seen him at all throughout the day as he was busy with clients and I had paper work and meetings to plan. She didn't seem very convinced though and kept on asking little questions through the night until I told her that I was going to sleep because I had to be up early. That was the only way I was able to receive peace from her about this whole Travis thing. Clearly Alice was a little bit infatuated even though she did share the same simmering anger I had towards him. The rest of the week passed by with no events. Frankly, I was a little bored really. I missed the hustle and bustle of working in a cafe or restaurant and always busy talking to other waitresses and customers. Here, I was planted on a desk inside Travis' office but I hadn't seen him all week. I mean Mr Charles Sr always made sure to say good morning and good night to me everyday from when I arrived until I left. He was a friendly face I had begun looking forward to seeing everyday. On the Friday just as I was finishing up my day's work, Mr Charles Sr and a lady I had never seen before were at the HQ. This piqued my interest for several reasons. One, Mr Charles Sr had never brought any woman to work before and two, they had a little girl with them who was unbelievably cute. I wondered if that little girl was their granddaughter or something but felt it was not in my place to ask. But I didn't have to wonder long because Mr Charles came up to me shortly and introduced the lady as Mrs Charles; his wife, and the little girl was their adopted daughter Naomi. She looked as if she was a mini Travis when I saw her up close. I greeted them both with joy as I was happy to know that Mr Charles Sr had such a lovely family to go back home to. As I was turning to leave, Mrs Charles said "It would be lovely if you could join us for dinner Sylvia. I've heard wonderful things about you from both Daniel and Travis and our little Naomi has taken a liking to you. She never says a word to anyone she doesn't like let alone smile." For some reason I felt a little bit taken back and Mrs Charles must have taken my silence as an agreement as she said "Great! I'll be sure to send a driver over to pick you up in about 2 hours time?" with that, she kissed both my cheeks and said her goodbyes along with Mr Charles Sr and Naomi gave me a cheeky smile and waved me goodbye.
I hadn't been to a dinner party in ages and I was feeling a little excited. I wondered if that had anything to do with the fact that I might see Travis again today after he'd basically been M.I.A all week. I had a feeling that the Charles house would be just as impressive as their magnificent hotels, so I had to wear something expensive from the Travis collection. Yeah I had decided to name the things Travis had insisted on buying for me "The Travis Collection". I found a beautiful white dress and paired it with some black high heels. I didn't want to look like I tried too hard but I didn't want to go wearing jeans and a t-shirt either. Alice was walking around the house in her usual birthday suit having an ice cream and stopped when she saw me. "Wowza! You look like a million pounds. Remind me to apply for a job where you're working. I certainly wouldn't mind my boss giving me a clothing allowance" she said.
"Stop fussing Alice, I'm only going to dinner with Daniel's family and I don't think Travis will be there anyway. I haven't seen him all week. Probably travelling with some pretty blonde stick of a woman. Besides, I don't think I want to see him outside of work" I glowered. The thought of Travis with someone else sent unpleasant thoughts spiraling into my mind. "Oooohhh sounds like someone has got the green eye!" Alice finished, laughing at me. Honestly sometimes I wondered if she was truly my friend or if she was just there to laugh at my misery. "I'm not miserable or jealous. Travis can go out with whoever he wants" I replied firmly. Alice just laughed at me again and said "Well I never said you were miserable. That was all your own words babe." I decided it was time to leave so I grabbed my bag and opened the door, only to have the life frightened out of me when I saw Ben standing outside my door again. "Ah Miss Taylor, I was asked if I could come and pick you up to take you to Mr Charles Sr' house. Of course I was more than happy to do it. You're a lovely breath of fresh air if I might add." I was completely stunned. I had forgotten that Mrs Charles was going to send me a driver to bring me to their house. Moments after, I recovered from my shock and gave Ben a dazzling smile. He was such a kind man. If I had met him elsewhere I'm sure we would have been great friends, if not something more. "Hi Ben, I had completely forgotten that Mrs Charles was sending someone to pick me up. Good thing it was you otherwise I might have shown the other driver my special karate moves" I laughed. Suddenly I felt as if I was being watched and I felt quite apprehensive to leave the house all of a sudden. Ben must have noticed my sudden change in mood because he asked "Are you alright Miss Taylor? You don't look well. Do you want me to let the Charles' know you can't make it?" For a second, that suggestion sounded brilliant but I came to the conclusion that I was being paranoid and silly so I said "No Ben, don't worry about it. I'm fine" and with that I lead us to Ben's car and got in when he opened the door for me. What a gentleman! I thought to myself. Here goes nothing I thought to myself. I never imagined myself getting close to Travis' family but here I am going to have dinner with them.
